I've had a Maz Jr (w/reverb) that I really like for about 3 yrs. I'm thinking of buying a Z-28 as I'm looking for a little more of an American tone and a little more headroom. But I'm wondering why reverb isn't offered?
Is there little demand for reverb these days? Or am I better off using some kind of external reverb, or delay pedal? Does reverb actually detract from the amp?

Simplicity is the key. The less to crowd the circuit the better IMO. I personally don't care for reverb in a live setting anyway. The room usually takes care of that for me. jmo
An outboard should work just fine. The Z28 reminds me a lot of a Tweed Fender and I've heard a lot of guys use outboard reverb units with those and get some great results.

When I ordered my Z 28 I was concerned that I would miss having reverb. Dr Z recommended a Holy Grail pedal which I ordered and had before I got the amp. The amp sounds so 3D and full that I think i've used that reverb pedal twice, just to see if it works ;D ArnieZ

Hey ArnieZ - does that HG pedal still work? I saw one used effectively last night and it's kind of got me thinking...but I hear they're hit & miss. I'd probably get mine from analogman for the added sense of security. Then again, like you I don't really know that I actually need it! Terry

Terry, The pedal works fine and yes they have been hit or miss. I thought mine was more noisy than what others had experienced. I sent it back when it was still under warranty and it was returned operating much quieter. I also bought mine before the switch to true bypass and have not bothered to mod it. It is a real good sounding pedal, I just never feel I'm missing it so I don't bother! ArnieZ

I dig what you're saying. Thanks for the reply. I may give it a shot one day, but I'm in no rush.

I've used a Holy Grail reverb with old Fender tweed amps and a Randall Modular preamp combo. It sounds good enough to me that I haven't plugged up my Fender Reissue reverb since I got the HG. My Maz sr has reverb so I haven't hooked it up to that amp. I actually think I might like the HG reverb better than the reverb in the Z. The Z reverb seems to last too long and not really bright enough to hear it well.

that sounds like a +1 for the HG. Hmm, my wallet is starting to throb. That or it's ducking for cover.

I use the Holy Grail with good results..I find it is quieter when you use the dedicated power supply.
