Got me a bias probe today and my LE #30 is reading 41.6 mA. Kinda a newbie at this stuff....I really like the way it sounds at this setting however is this too high or low? I don't wanna blow anything up.

The bias will vary depending on available voltage, that is why many take a variax to the gig for consistant tone, not me by any means, but some do.
What I'm saying is if you like where it is leave it, check your wall voltage for reference, if you gig out the voltage can and will vary.

I liked it where it was at...however I don't want to go over/under the reccomended range...
I guess I need to know exactly what that range is...

You'll need the plate voltage first as measured at the tube socket.

Not so sure I wanna do that...I've got it set at 38 mA right now.

Not so sure I wanna do that...I've got it set at 38 mA right now. If you are not sure on it send Doc a PM just to be safe . This is another reason we need these owners manuals with tech info such as biasing for each model so it isn't a guessing game . I'll be glad when they are available for download .

Played a gig the other night and at high volumes amp sounded really stiff no bounce at all...so I took your advice and pm'd the Dr. told me 38ma was too high and to try between 32-34ma...brought her down to 33ma and all is well!

With the EL34M or any other EL-34 I set about 34-36mA.

I read or heard once, that SRV's (I think it was SRV) tech usually had to run a 50 ft. extention cord for his amp. They played out one night and didn't need to use it. Stevie was tweeking the knobs the entire first set but couldn't get it right. At the set break after a little talking, they decided to plug in the extention cord just to see. Next set was fine.
I don't know if I got all of the facts straight, but I remembered the point for sure. Little things make a difference.

I biased them at 36mA at 120V from the wall, if you have more or less wall voltage it will vary slightly.
