I have a Maz Jr NR. Can I use the Air Brake Lite with this? I have a Dr. Z cab with 2 10s. Are there any hook up or logistical considerations I should know about if I use a BL with this head + separate cabinet rig?

Well the Brake Lite is designed to be mounted inside a combo. So although it works fine, you just have to accommodate its intended purpose. bluzman screwed it to a piece of plywood, for example, and he sits it on top. Some folks have mounted it inside the Convertible cab. That's fine too. The Brake Lite has about 12-16" of cable sticking out with a right angle plug on it that goes to the speaker out on your amp. So you have to get it positioned so that it can reach your head. Most guys don't find this to be hard at all.

I'll think about it. I may end up with the regular Air Brake. It is more intended for my rig with the separate cab. I'll be down at my local Dr. Z distributor this weekend pricing them. : )

I haven't done that yet. I just slip its long edge under the MAZ handle. Now, I'm not running things real hot, but I would keep track of the temperature so as not to damage the tolex. Whichever one you choose, you'll find it to be a great addition to the MAZ.

I've been leaving my Airbrake in the signal path lately, siting right on top of my MAZ-18 R combo. Works great! But I'm thinking about springing for a Brakelite just to keep things neat and clean.

The Break Lite is a must have for the MAZ. I got one of the first ones in the UK, on my Maz18 Combo, and it is PERFECT! It should be added to the price list as just part of the options list - it's that good. Cheers Pete

Hi, Im gonna be in the same postion as the guy who posted this topic. I've ordered my Maz 18watt NR head and a 2x10 cab. Is the BL easy to set up? I didnt realise that it was mainly built for combos. Is it just as simple as connecting the the speaker cable to the proper BL jack input and then the for the head (head cable to amp connection on BL)? Is there anything more to do after this?

It is trivial to set up. The BL comes with its input prewired to a 1/4" 90 degree plug, which goes into your amp's speaker output. Then you supply a speaker cable that goes from the BL output to the cab input. Done. The only thing you'll have to decide is if you want to mount the BL or just sit it on top. I've seen it done both ways - I'd start with on top so you get used to what it can do, then decide if you want to mount it up later. If you decide to mount it in your cab, there are other issues you'll probably want to address, but get used to the tool first.

+1 on benttop's suggestion. Give it a try before mounting. You may find you like having it sit on top. I do. Then I can reach over and adjust it during a gig. Beats having to try to reach into the back of an amp or cab in a tight-fit performance setting.

James, here's what I did: I mounted the BL on the bottom of the 210 z cab. I ran the 1/4" male thingy from the BL (the one with the twisty chord) along the back of the cab and velcroe'd it in place. I connected it to a female/female adapter and ran the adapter up the lower right back portion of the cab and velcroed it in place so that it just barely sticks up above the rear panel, giving the cab essentially a new jack to plug the head into. Coming out of the BL I just used a short cable to hook into the original input jack. This is kindof an arse-backwards way to do it but the key to me was being able to AVOID having to do any soldering. Sorry if my explanation was confusing. Anyways, it might give you some ideas. The BrakeLite is crucial for any Z, imo.

I mounted my brakelight in my 1x12 cab and if you position it correctly it reaches your head without a problem.

I can't imagine my Maz without one...it get's loud quickly. Brakelite tames it for gig levels for sure....
