Why is it that every time I walk into the music store and see their Route 66 sitting there, I NEED to play it? Went and put a deposit down on a piece of gear, and tried to leave. The Route 66 sucked me back into the amp room and I spent an hour playing it! I really cant get over the tone of this thing. It just evokes so many of my favorite tones. This time, I played it with alot of guitars, including a Ritchie Blackmore signature strat. Man, it really does have a wonderful Marshall sound. Could have bought it last year, but I needed a higher gain amp to cover some of the more modern stuff, so I ended up buying a JCM 800 2203x. The 2203 is great, but the 66 is a very cool amp, fantastic actually. It may be my next amp.......lord, if only I won the lottery today!

It's too bad you did not try the 66 with a boost and an OD Pedal stacked. It will give you all the gain you need. The 66 is the best amp I have ever played.

Lefty, I did play the Route 66 with a BB preamp when I was at the store, and I was really impressed at how well the Route 66 accepted the BB. I was very much torn between the two amps (JCM and 66), but in the end I went with the Marshall because I felt it really fit the sound I was trying to get for the gig I play. Besides, even though its not a Z, it is still a great amp. I use my Maz. Jr. and JCM 800 together on gigs! However, I strongly feel my next amp purchase will either be a Galaxie (really digging the two channel Fender/Brit gain thing), or a Route 66.

Man, it is funny you say that because before I went amp hunting I tried to find an SRZ-65 (the special edition one). Nobody had one, and all the stored I tried were sold out already. Is yours an original one, or a special edition? How do you like it?

Yes it is a Limited Edition & it is very, very GOOD!! Too bad you could not find one, but once in a while an older one will come up for sale. The Route 66 is still my #1 amp, but the SRZ is still very new to me.

Leftylang, my first three albums were all JCM 800 and quady. I love those amps, hence my serious lust for the SRZ65. Glad you're diggin' it. That's two mighty fine amps to have in the stable!
