My amp is making a strange noise when I hit certain notes, it's like tinkerbell is in there ringing some tiny little bells as a note rings out. I recorded it here: www.f-64.org/stupidnoise.mp3Anyone have any idea what that is? Bad tube? Nothing is wailing and I tapped on all the tubes and didn't hear anything.

Sounds almost like your axe might be fretting out. Try the guitar on another amp, use the same note and see if it still gets that sound.

Is that the infamous ghost note?

It's not fretting out although I thought of that too. It does it at other places on the fretboard and doesn't make that noise through the amp sitting next to it (thought it might be something in the house rattling too). It sounds (to me) like there is something loose in one of the tubes or in the amp, but I figured I'd let the experts have a listen and see before I go replacing things.

Just a thought... try removing the metal retainers on the Kt66 tubes and see if you are getting a vibration there. Also remove the cab from the speaker and see if it goes away.

It was a bad preamp tube. I swapped it out for another tube and it stopped making that noise, when I put that tube in another amp, it started making that noise. Sucky, too, because it was a vintage mullard!
