I've got some short demo clips at putfile...Rt.66 used alone and with various pedals. One is a live clip using the Eternity. I recorded these last summer, and I would probably do these differently today if I had the time...but I thought I would share anyway. Hopefully you can get some tone ideas from them. www.putfile.com/beckanon/media

Sounds great, the finger style is really cool...

The day I recorded that clip, I forgot to have a pick with me....so fingerstyle was out of necessity. It's good to practice that way once in awhile! I will sometimes go completely fingerstyle on gigs depending on the tune being played...totally different dynamic. I will try to record some with flatpick as well.

In the Video are you playing the Route 66 with a pedal? I would like mine to sound more like that. I have Strats with great pickups and I just can't get that sound. My 66 has great clean tone, ridiculous head room and sounds pretty good with a BB booster but I can't get anything close to that sound or the sound on the Howlers clips without a pedal. A good clean boost pedal like the Bad Bod yields an almost AC/DC like raspy drive that I don't really like. Maybe I need new tubes and a re-bias or something. Any suggestions? There is no creamy-ness when overdriven at all.

Well, the video clip labeled Rt.66 has no pedals added to the sound. The other clips I have posted there at putfile have pedals added, but not the "Rt.66" one.
My pickups on the Tele are Bill Lawrence 280TL/290TN, which are noiseless -- they are stacked humbuckers, and they hit the EF86 preamp tube in a nice way. I had the amp turned up pretty good in that clip too.
I have Shuguang KT66's in there....I forget what the EF86 tube is. Sovtek 12AX7 in the phase inverter. The speakers in the cab are a 30W Weber Blue ceramic, and a Celestion G12H30. I hope some of this helps.

fruna - how high do you normally run the volume and tone controls?
beck - that sounds like my tele does, 68 and the pickups are a bit hot but most definitely not noiseless.

Nice tones! How do you normally run the amp settings? ' I normally set the amp for a "dirty/clean" tone. Something like: VOL@12:00 to 2:00 TREBLE@3:00 BASS@1:00 This gets good grind when you dig in, and stays clean on softer passages. Once in awhile, though, I have to dime everything and tear the walls down! All I need are those three knobs.
