In my never ending quest to get a great lower volume rock sound happening I tried something different today and it totally ROCKED! I set up my Rt 66 with 1-12 cab all settings around 11-12 O'Clock and with it I set up the MINI in stereo with the mini around 12 O'Clock also. Don't laugh but it sounded awesome! You would think the 66 volume would totally overpower it but the top end grind of the mini busted over the top of the bottom and girth of the 66 for this really growly Marshally crunch at a reasonable volume. No matter where I set the 66 (cranked) I could still hear the presence of the Mini. Rolled back it had that nice el84 chime over the thick smokey 66. If I needed to get absolute clean for funk or whatever I just turn the mini volume right down or turn it off! Hitting both in stereo with my Tonefactor Hellbilly sent this stereo pair into EJ, Eric Cream era fuzz lead tone Ecstasy. The extra gain from the Mini just made it SOAR, but it wasn't thin because it had the 66 underneath. Later I tried the 66 into the 1-12 and the Mini into my ZBest and again it was massive. The mini could be heard very clearly, so much so it sounded louder than the 66 but when I hit the standby on the 66 the "apparent" volume of the mini just dropped away as did all the girth. It was really cool and I'm gonna have to try it at a gig. Kinda like adding a GREAT overdrive pedal to the 66. I'll post my thoughts when I do.

I should add I was running both amps through my Foxrox TZF in stereo. It has a cool stereo setting that sounded fantastic when engaged. The flanging signal is out of phase between ouputs A and B but the dry signal is in phase between the two outputs giving a very WIDE stereo image. But it was cool bypassed as well. The leslie and Vibe sounds were so lush in stereo. The worst thing about all this is now I'm gassing for a Ghia even more as the 66 and ghia in stereo would sound gorgeous I'm sure. A nice blend I would think. All that chimey clean mixed with the fat bottomed 66. Perfect rig for our Police band.
