Following Curt, Steve, and everyone else (it seems)...picked up a MINT Route 66 with a Tuki cover from Lesterstrat, one of the mods over at the FDP. As you can see below, the match is perfect to my cabinet...only the logo is different. WOW, what a great addition to the Stingray! A completely different beast. Lessee, where to start?? Firstly, the RC booster is KILLER with the 66. Don't really need the Keeley TS9 OR the Barber Tone Press. It is loud and solid all the way to the low E...and the highs sing and sustain endlessly. I should point out the knobs are all at 3:00, all RC knobs at noon. There is a good deal of midrange character in this amp, definitely made for blues and rock...although I may try it with country...but the 'Ray will remain the country "go to" amp for now. The only humbucker guitar in my house is a cheapo Yamaha, and the pups are not all that...but the 66 really comes alive with some 'buckers. I guess that's next on the GAS list. I immediately saw reason to compare the 66 to my old RxES, as they're much on the same page. With the RC on, the 66 has about the same gain and drive as the Rx with the overdose engaged...and appears to be *almost* as LOUD. It's the kind of gain where the notes literally "jump" off the fretboard. Where the Rx is very bright, the 66 is not so...BUT the RC allows dialing in of some highs. More later...I need to digest all this & experiment some more...but, VERY VERY pleased with this brute of an amp. ;D

Congratulations. It should be a great addition to the arsenal. I can't wait to hear some detailed reviews. The Rt 66 has always been on my radar, especially after listening to the clip on Fatsounds website. Thick, WARM, and smoky! Great amp. I really like the EF-86 amps.
Harold
P.S. I'll be at Bahama Joe's in Richmond on Aug 25. Hope you can make it. It'd be my pleasure to buy you the beverage of your choice ;D

Harold, I've marked my calendar and will be there the 25th. You'll be using your Stingray? Looking forward to meeting you . You snuck that 2x12 cabinet in on me Curt. Looks just like the one I sold Jason...NICE! Btw, thanks for pysching me up on the Rt66. Your description of it being a higher powered Ghia was spot on, and that's what pushed me to make this deal. Owe you one, bud! My son and his buddy pretty much took it over for the remainder of the evening, hauling it out to the garage and plugging into the big Marshall 1960. They both agreed the RC Booster is the shizzle with this amp, and would just leave it on and work the guitar volume. Lots more articulation and note definition during drive than the DSL 50...not to mention superior touch sensitivity. He mentioned that with the guitar volume down as low as 3, it was the first amp he's played that sounded sweet at such a low volume. As you roll the guitar volume up, you can pick light and still remain fairly quiet, but DIG IN and the broad dynamics in this amp shows itself. Now I know how Jaye got those oft heard quiet to all out balls on his albums!

I've got a black one with salt and pepper grille on the way. Congrats man. This is my third Z and my only amp right now. I'm hoping to add a Mazerati eventually .

Nice one Madison! I have a feeling that amp might sneak out to a few of junior's gigs too. ;D Stringray and 66 is a great setup. might just be my dream rig.
Man, the 66 page is going off at the moment! Everyone's pulling the trigger. Way to go y'all.

OK Bill, glad to see that you just grabbed a Route 66 too, and a nice looking one at that. It's good to read your praises on this amp. I think mines shipping today, so I won't see it until Monday or Tuesday.
Good luck with the new head and keep us posted on your findings.
Steve

I don't haul the 2x12 out much though, great cabs and see no reason to sell it, looks cool, sounds cool ;D Your quite welcome for the little 66 shove !!! We'll see how you (and Ms Bill) feel when the statement comes I'm glad you "get" my refering the 66 to the Ghia, I figured you and others would think I'm nutZ. Those two just have the same simple circuit vibe to me, my two fav Z's no doubt.......so far Can't wait for a gig report from you. For my form of Texas alt country the 66 works just about perfect. Oh, +1 on the RC with the 66, makes a fat amp even fatter ! The RC and Keeley BD-2 = ;D

Wow, I'm really pumped right now! ;D Just made an even swap, the Marshall 1960 4x12 for a new Marshall 1936 loaded with two Celestion G12T75's. This cab with the Route 66/ RC Booster is AMAZING, a total blues machine!! Lightweight too, no problem getting it up the stairs, big plus there. This is "kind of" my sons rig...but I've GOT to figure how to use this thing. Maybe I'll get lucky and our dates won't collide...actually they already have, we're doing a big blues jam in Sept. Wonder if I could talk him into using my old Mesa Boogie 22??
