I know the blue glow is normal in some tubes and in others it is not a good thing. From what I remember reading it is an excess amount of electrons getting past a grid, screen, pacman ;D, or something or rather in there and appears as a blue glow. It dances just like the borealis - kinda cool...well unless it means its a tube going bad. Anyone know if this is good/normal for this tube? I have GT KT-66s but they are not the HPs from what I can tell. Also, the paper tag on the base that has the hand-written grade is starting to brown so I believe these tubes have been in there for a while. Might be time to replace. Going to JJ 6L6s from here. Killer Amp even if the tubes are starting to crap out Thanks.

Now if there is swirling pink gas clouds, that is a bad thing and turn off the amp very fast.

My two old Tweed Bassmans (both are 1957s) were supposed to have the mercury vapor rectifier tubes (83's). Mine were already converted to 5AR4's by the time I got them. The 83 was supposed to be a cool tube to watch but I've never seen one. Supposed to glow purple? Myles has probably seen them?
