Want to tame the 66 volume and also get that old school Marshally Hendrixy sound. Anyone prefer greenbacks or G12Hs or Scumback speakers (or vintage black back 25 watters). If so in what configuration 2x12 or 4x12, open or closed back? Vintage or new cab??
Looking to get away from the Z best, was a bit modern sounding for me and quite effcient so pretty loud, even when attenuated. Any experiences with these speaker selection

Eminence makes the 'Wizard', which I've found out is supposed to be like Greenbacks. But the good thing, it's wattage rating is 45 watts (I may have this wrong, going by memory). This is important to me, because I'm going with a 1x12 closed back with my 66. (I too am trying to tame the volume) I've got a Mesa Black Shadow speaker in there now. It's made by celestion. I would assume it's some celestion model with with a mesa sticker on the back...but I don't know what model.
But if you're looking for the old school Marshally sound, I would definitely go with a closed back. It rolls off the highs a bit in a signature sort of way.
