I can get singing tones with both ROute 66 and Marshall/Germino amps using humbucking guitars at mid level volume settings, plus a boost or OD pedal set more for volume than for gain. However, I am on the quest of getting the same warm tones from a strat with stock pups. Looking for tones achievable without running the amp full out too. One of my favorite warm tones is Hendrix at Woodstock, where the guitar top end is subdued and the warmth and thickness is there, even without fuzzes. Any suggestions?

I have a new route 66, but I haven't used it with my stat yet. Based on my experience with HB pickups, it's not going to sing without a pedal. Without a master volume, this amp needs to be run at higher volumes. Perhaps you can consider an attenuator.

Anyone have a nice combination of effects that can be used to get the Route 66 there like it can with a strat. Looking to cop tones from Hendrix Woodstock/Band of Gypsys w/o and w/ fuzzes...Have a Marshall 2x12 cab loaded with a G12H30 and Weber Blue Dog. Anyone favor the 4x12 of greenbacks? 4x12 versus 2x12? Scumbacks G12Hs?? Open versus closed back? Looking to really rope in the volume, and will likely use the amp at medium volumes with pedals to get THAT tone if possible...any way to really thicken the strat and make it sing??

Hi Dewman, here is a list of some effects I think you would need to capture that sound. First unless you can crank the Route 66 is you will need a decent overdrive that can give you that cranked feeling with out coloration or all out drive. The Xotic BB preamp comes to mind. I love this pedal! Also the lovepedal COT50 comes to mind as well, but I have not tried it. Another pedal I highly recommend is the MJM Blues Devil for that cranked sound. www.prosoundcommunications.com/english/xotic/effects/lineup.html Check out the Allen Hinds Part 2 and Scott Henderson Part 2 demo clips. www.prosoundcommunications.com/english/video/index.html Next thing you need is a good Silicon Fuzz if you want the Band of Gypsies or the Woodstock sound. The MJM London Fuzz II is a silicon fuzz and d@mn if it doesn't rock. Here are some clips of the fuzzes as well as the Blues Devil. www.mjmguitarfx.com/mjm_soundsamples.htmlNext you will need an Octavia. I love the Chicago Iron Octavian and the MJM Roctavios for that function. I have also liked the Fulltone Ultimate Octave pedal as well. www.mjmguitarfx.com/www.chicagoiron.com/Next you will need an univibe pedal. The two I have liked the most is the MJM Sixties vibe and the Sweet Sound Mojo Vibe. You definitely need this for the 'Star Spangled Banner' or 'Machine Gun' sounds. www.sweetsound.com/Lastly you need a good wah. The Teese Picture wah is great, as well as the RMC3 if you want something more tweak-able. www.realmccoycustom.com/I think these would give you a good Hendrix vibe to your sound. You might want to find a curly power cord like Jimi would use as well.

Nice recommendations although I prefer the Fulltone standard Clyde for wah. You could save yourself some trouble and get a Foxrox Captain Coconut. I think any good fuzz will get your strat singing.
On those effects, I have the Fulltone Deja-vibe Ulbrick Pro Octave Fulltone Standard Clyde Wah Tonefactor Hellbilly (set for Fuzz sounds) Foxrox Thru Zero Flanger - for all those wacky "House Burning Down" flanges and all the others Kramer produced for Jimi.
Still would like to find a killer fuzz.

Why not?! ;D You would love the BB preamp. I have heard a lot of good things about the COT50 as well. A different animal than the BB so why not get both.
