Hey... The Rt66 is my first amp using EF86, so I'm a bit unfamiliar with this tube... In my Rt 66 this particular tube does glow at all, and, when compared to a traditional 12AX7 it is not very hot either when touched (I can put a finger on it with no problem). Is that normal... Are there any sure references that can be used to determine a EF86 malfunction? As far as I know this tube type should last longer than most other pre-amp tubes..

toneseeker...I read this post last week, and I keep forgetting to check out the EF86 while I'm playing -- Sorry! I seem to remember while doing some tube replacing last month, that the EF86 was always easy to handle (not hot in the least) when getting ready to remove it from the amp. So maybe what you are talking about here is normal behavior? Have you posted this question in the "Ask the Experts" section?

Hi Toneseeker, it's normal for it not to get that hot. The EF86 in the Stingray doesn't get so hot you can't touch it. In fact the hottest it gets is luke warm.
