I take it most of us Rt66 users are in the studio or on stage with this amp. It's not exactly a bedroom playin' kind of machine.
I usually -- always, actually-- have to attenuate my 66 with a MiniMass. I prefer the openness of the natural, unattenuated Rt66, but its just not a possibility with my gigs.
Are you guys throwing the beast wide open? Semi-dirty, then kick in a boost or overdrive pedal?

For my band I run the Rt 66 at about 1 to 2 oclock volume, about 1 oclock to 2 on treble and 3 oclock on bass so it's pretty wound up. I usually play without attenuation but I always take the airbrake just in case. If it's a smaller venue I will start with it on 3 and work it off by the last set ;D
I've also been playing in a cover band lately and I just run it clean and use pedals for dirt. I run everything about 10 oclock.
When I recorded my latest album everthing was around 3 oclock and I used the guitar volume for variations. You can check it out in the Sounds section of the forum under "Hypothermia Album" Route 66

I run mine at about 2 o´clock on the volume, 1 o´clock on the Bass and 10 o´clock on the Treble. That works just fine for my Tele

My 66 is gone now, but I ran all dials straight up noon through a single 12" V-30 Air Brake as needed...but always needed

I've had my 66 for a few years now, and I've run it through a number of different cabs and settings. I always attenuate, but usually with just one click on my Hot Plate. Sometimes, I keep it fairly clean (a relative term) and use a dirt box. Other times, I've pushed the amp pretty hard (bass and treble up to 1:00 and 3:00...you know the deal) and used a low gain OD to push it. I also use a compressor for slide tunes. Man, I can't tell you which settings I like best. I keep changing my mind ;o). Overall, I probably like to open it up and just use the low gain box for solos. It's a great amp. By the way, have you noticed how much better the amp sounds after those big tubes warm up....like, 20 minutes or so?

Absolutely! In the studio, I would turn on the amp in the morning, then the producer and I would have a coffee for half an hour before we started.
