Maybe.......If you had a pretty bright Tele, I had a 66 and dug it but it is REAL thick in the middle and down low, zero top end sizzle, awesome amp and I wish I'd kept mine...If it's cheap as stated grab it and try and make it work for you, Z's will always sell if you need to.
There is usually a 66 on ebay at any given time, they seem to move well at about $1000.

It seems to me that the Rt 66 is conspicuous by its absence from BP's gear. Wonder what the reason is? Lack of high-end sparkle, maybe??

Most country players would probably opt for something different than the 66, but in the right hands you could make it work. It does lack the high end sparkle that other amps have...the treble is ample and "there", just thicker and more aggressive sounding, as opposed to a glassier Fender tone. If you stick a treble booster or some other boost pedal with high end sparkle (like a ZVex SHO) in front of the 66, that would help. I play a Tele into my Rt66, and although I'm playing R&B these days I would have no problem taking the amp to a counrty gig -- but I go for sounds that are a little diff. anyway.

Maybe you should also look at the Z28?? Same awesome preamp tone stack, except driving a pair of 6V6's. The cleans are closer to Fender than the Rt66 and the "full-up" overdrive sounds get pretty marshally.

The 28 gets even more of a Marshall tone with a 12ax7 Phase Inverter versus the 5751 that comes in it from the Doc. It's also a very loud 22 watts. Seriously.

I ran one with a 2x12 cab (V30+G12H30) in the Texas circuit while I was down there. Music was more alt country/americana/singer-songwriter. Did a lot of shows w/Ragweed if that puts it in perspective. Could get some twang but more along the lines of Eddie Shaver (Billy Jo Shaver) rather than Brad Paisley.
As stated, the 66 has a real thick, full and warm mid-range...think of the tone as a hot rodded Marshal JTM-45 (not the same amp at all but the closest general tone comparison). It doesn't touch the Vox chime or the Fender bright top end.
Suggestion: I'd spring for the R66 at a good price and unload it for a profit. Then, spring for a Maz Jr or Maz Sr (killer country/blues/rock amps) which would probably be a better fit.
