I just received a 66 head 2 days ago from a member on a different forum. I'm not sure how old it is but it's red tolex in excellent cosmetic condition.
When I plugged it in I turned on the power switch and waited a minute then flipped the standby on. The fuse blew right away. I know this is sometimes the sign of a bad power tube so I unscrewed the grate and see that the PT is leaning quite a bit to the right. It is still bolted down securely and there is no damage to the chassis around the screw holes. There is also an L bracket screwed into the inside of the cab, also secure, it is right over the PT but not attached to anything except the inside face of the cab.
I replaced the fuse and reseated the power tubes and the amp worked fine when I tried it. I turned it off after playing for a few minutes and then went back a couple of hours later. Same thing, the fuse blew as soon as I flipped on the standby.
I've just put a 3rd fuse in it and it was working fine an hour ago but I did notice that when I flipped on the standby the pilot light flickered.
The seller says the PT was straight when he shipped it and claims it must have been dropped. I don't see how it could have been dropped hard enough to bend the feet on the PT without damaging the chassis and breaking at least the power tubes. It's leaning a lot not just a hair.
Is the bent PT causing my fuse problem? I'm kind of hesitant to use it until I know what's going on with the PT.
I don't have a spare pair of KT66's to put in it yet but I'm going to order some today.
Thanks for any help.
