I got my brand new z28 head in the mail about a week and fell in love with it, i opened it up today to check out the tubes and noticed that there was a 12ax7 in the phase inverter section when there is supposed to be a stock 5751, wondering why that would be in there, anybody know, or is it just a mishap on dr z's part?

if you look on the main website under the tube compliment it is either/or on whether its a 5751 or a 12AX7
some may have the 5751, some may have the 12AX7. i imagine the Doc puts whatever balanced tube he has laying around in there.

The 12AX7 will be a little more aggressive in V2... give the 5751 a try... I personally prefer it in my Z28!

I love 5751's. I always had one in the PI position in all my fender amps, I always felt like there was a lot more headroom and just a mellower over all tone. Im gonna have to get my hands on an old tungsol 5751 and a dario miniwatt ef86.

You'll love that Dario! I stuck one in my Z28 as soon as I got & have never regretted the choice!
