Both KT66's gave up the ghost with 15 minutes left to play last night. The band was happy we got to quit a few minutes earlt. I was just staring at my 66...damn, it sucked. I am now starting to wonder if using an attenuator constantly was affecting the life of the tubes (I'm guessing they were about 1.5 to 2 years old.) I ordered a set of Saratov's from the Tubestore....says on the site there that this is what GT uses for their KT66-HP series and I bought this amp with GT's in it so I'm gonna stick with that. I just hope the fuse blew in time to save any other damage to the transformers or something else. Crap...this sucks. I think for tomorrow night's gig I'm gonna take a loaner Orange AD30 out and give that a spin. It sounded nice at the local store that sells 'em and I haven't played a Class A EL84 amp in awhile.

No fun, but at least it's just tubes. I fried a Ghia at a practice (bought used) and was bummed *and* embarrassed. Sent it to the Doc and it came back less than a week later a super Ghia. No better service anywhere!
Next practice, no more wisecracks and jokes...the newly modded Ghia kicked and can still kick butt today!

I have had a few tube failures during shows. Now I keep a small combo amp in my car just in case. I also do a stereo set up whenever I get the chance to use a bigger rig. It is nice knowing there is backup, even if you never use it. Also, I have a few matched sets of KT-66's so I don't have to get the amp re-biased everytime a tube blows.

yeah, guitarhero...that's what I should've been prepared to do. But, of course, me being me -- I didn't.
Anyway, she's breathing again and sounds pretty good so far at home. I put in a matched set of Saratovs, so I haven't rebiased the amp or anything. Sounds fine here at home. Pretty much exactly what the amp always sounds like. The gig on Saturday will tell whether I need a rebias or not.
