Hey guys...I'm sure that there's info on this somewhere around here but I'll be darned if I can find it.
I've got a StangRay head and a RXjr combo and it's been haunting me lately that I don't have ANY backup tubes for either amp. I just shudder to think that I may have a tube problem and have no amp somewhere on the road.
Could someone please tell me which tubes are in both amps and where the best place is to get backups. I don't care about changing to different type tubes...exact replacements are more of what I'm looking for. Both amps already sound SO GOOD that I can't imagine wanting or needing to change.
Also...how do you guys transport and protect your backup tubes?

tube list info is here www.drzamps.com/tubeinfo.htmlif you want solid protection look at Pelican cases or for a cheaper alternative the waterproof SKB mic cases are also nice, the SKB's can be bought at Guitar Center i imagine you can find an even cheaper way to protect them if you wanted. corrugated cardboard box filled with shipping peanuts?

Thanks for the info...unfortunately that list doesn't have EITHER of my amps on it. It does show a RX ES...are the tubes the same in the RXjr?
But it doesn't show a StangRay at all.
Thanks for the advice on protection. Another friend suggested I use an Ammo box from any military surplus with some foam inside. That one seems the most affordable route. I can make the inside similar to the SKB mic boxes. I already have one of them...but it's full of mics! lol

Okay...well I've found out most of what I need. The Dr. Z website lists the tubes in the Ray and although it's not really clear it appears that the RXjr has - 2-EL84 2-12AX7 1-EF86 1-5Y3 What isn't clear, is while I'm looking on GC's website there appear to be two different kinds of EL84's...S and R series...which one do the Z's both have in them? Also it's asking me to choose a RATING...what's that about? The range seems to be 1 to 10... This keeps getting more and more confusing! lol Any help is much appreciated...thanks in advance.

yeah thats the layout for the Rx Jr., one of those 12AX7 is probably a Phase Inverter so you will need a balanced 12AX7. the same with the Stangray's 12AX7
The El84 is probably an S type, since most of the Z's use that, you might like something else though. and the tube list is a guide, sometimes you'll find something different in a new Z.
the rating are for how much headroom or for quicker distortion, your Z probably has a 6 rating in it. the higher the number the more headroom, the lower the less
Buying from GC would be riskier probably because i dont believe they test the tubes from the factory to see if they are duds, check out KCA NOS, Doug's Tubes, or Eurotubes
