...amp out ? I mean for extended periods of time? I am experimenting with overdrive pedals and found that since this amp has such a wide band frequency response the typical TS-9 or 808 tube screamer pedals totally suck the bottom end tone from the amp. With the guitar plugged in the low input and the OD switch engaged, the amp has a killer rhythm crunch in that mode. The only pedal I have that keeps the tone intact is a Mesa V-twin preamp. If I run on bypass mode it has that nice overdose crunch but by engaging the 'Blues' mode on the V-twin, I get a killer smooth lead tone..... nice compression and tons of sustain without killing the fatness of the tone. Surprisingly, if I disengage the overdose pedal AND Mesa pedal, I still have a nice chimey clean tone!! .... so basically with this setup I have Clean, Crunch and a Rippin lead mode. What a great amp! Of course my guitar pups are not real hot, so that is part of it. I'm not done with this yet but just trying different things...... I just don't want to blow the amp up by keeping the overdose engaged for extended periods of time. I forgot to add that I am running through the Airbrake set on 3 to keep everything from catching on fire. Any overdrive ideas are welcome

I asked Dr Z that same question during a phone conversation a couple of years ago...the answer is NO problem, you CAN leave the overdose on all the time with zero ill effects.

Yep, Lo Imput/OD on is where this amp shines IMO.

I sold my old TS-808 after playing it through my first Z amp (RT66) for the same reason you mentioned, sucked the bottom out. I couldn't resist selling my TS-808 as they are going for ridicules $s on ebay.

I'm sorry. You've ruined the amp. It won't work anymore. I guess you'll just have to pack it up and send it to me and I'll just have to put it to pasture for ya!
Just kidding.
As you've probably found out, there are such a wide range of tones and sounds that you can coax out of the RxES. I'm glad that you found your sound!

I never noticed it using that Ibanez with any of my other amps, but none of them have the wide frequency band of the ES. The Mesa V twin even sucks a little tone, but not as noticable. I guess what I would like to know is what kind of overdrive pedal will work with this amp without sucking the tone? My idea here is to use the amp on the low input where I have a good clean tone, and then use a OD pedal for a crunch mode, and of course the overdoes pedal for solo work.

so many pedals to chose from. I'm happy with my xotic BB, the treble and bass controls allow tailoring for different guitars. YMMV

The Xotic BB is a preamp, and has tone adjustments. The Zendrive is a great sounding pedal - doesn't have the mid-hump that the TS style pedals have - which is probably more of what you're hearing - not so much bottom dropping out, but the mids really being pronounced (imho).
Hope this helps.

Keeley modded pedals really open up the frequency range.
