I have a RX-ES 2x12 combo, I would like to load it up with a couple Celestion Alnico Golds or 1-Gold and 1-G12H-30. If anybody has tried either of these combinations or others out, I would like to get some feed back. The green backs that ship stock have a certain vibe, but they break up to early for me, and have a "raspy" high end I would like to smooth out.

Thanks, WOPNICHE

Got the golds installed yesterday, broke em in a bit, Took the RX-ES combo to a local studio where we were finishing a couple guitar tracks. I must say "so far so good!" they have a much tighter bottom end, then the greenbacks or a celestion blue, the mids are classic "voxy" punch if you will and the chime is still there, but smoother in my opinion. I used a custom shop tele with Rio Grande's (Muy Grande bridge-Tallboy neck) with just a touch of keeley compressor and a fulltone ocd for the crunch parts. Didn't have a chance to plug in the Les Paul or a humbucker equipped guitar, but if the Tele is any indication, all well be well!! Keep in mind the speakers are still fresh and will sound even better with a little time on them. I may not even bother with mixing the gold with a G12H, as the two Golds seem to be what I was looking for. There not cheap though, I purchased mine thru Avatar, they have the best prices Ive seen on Celestion. Oh, by the way I wired the speakers in parallel to run at 4 ohms. this is what DR. Z ships 2x12's stock. a little tighter or punchy than series wiring.

I got my C-Gold from Avatar also, still waiting for an unloaded cab from CA. So far I have mixed Gold with G12H in Z best cab and a Celestion Blue in the other Z best. Both speaker are working well with C- Gold.C-Blue and C-Gold really shines with StingRay and Maz Sr Rev.Have not tried other amps with these speakers yet,but so far so good.

Cool, I may wait a while and then experiment with a G12H in the mix with the Gold, but for now the 2-Gold combo has got me hooked! I also have a Maz-38sr 2x12 combo, I purchased it from Fat Sound in Carey NC, it was used but MINT. it has a Celestion Blue and a G12H in it and I love the way those two drivers work in it. ;D AVATAR seems like a cool company, their prices are great and they seem to have a good rep. as far as their cabinets are concerned. I may check out one in the future.
