Hey folks:
I have always been a strat guy, I love em. I have been getting more and more curious with a telecaster though. I have been kicking the idea around of trading in the ole strat for a telecaster lately. How many of you have A/B'ed the 28 with a strat and tele? Playing mostly americana/alt country, roots rock, classic rock kinda stuff. Would be the first time in 10 years without a strat in the stable but definitely curious.

Hi jody Try to keep a strat and a tele. The strat is especially nice with the Z-28 but so is the tele. The strat's neck pu, overdriven is amazing on that amp. The tele's back pu for solos is also great as the Z-28 is not too piercing with the Z-28 Brett

IMHO its a Strat amp.... not that it sounds bad with other guitars, its just that it sounds....well, you have to be the judge of that.

Every body needs to have at least one strat and one tele in their arsenal IMO. I play both through my 28 and they sound great.

Strat vs Tele with Z-28? Neither at this time for me. Am currently diggin' dual 'bucker guitars with maple tops and mahogany or basswood backs - Music Man and PRS to be specific. That said, I have played both Strats and Teles with my '28. Tended to prefer the Tele - usually with a 210 cab hooked-up. Strats were cool too .... heck, I think the '28 sounds great with just about any guitar.

Hey Jody, From your post, I can't tell if you are swapping a tele for a strat or just benching the strat to give a Tele a little playtime. Hopefully the latter, cuz that's a tough decision to have to make otherwise.
I take a '62 Reissue Strat and an Am Std Tele to every gig we play, and have used my Z28 on the two most recent gigs (instead of my beloved RT66) .
BOTH guitars sound amazing through that amp. I know a lot of forumites love 'buckers with the Z28 and RT66, but I think single-coil guitars really shine through these amps. Personally, I find the Strat-Z28 combination more satisfying than Tele-Z28, but that's attributed more to the Strat's amazing versatility than pure head to head tone comparison.

Howdy,
I'm a Tele man and a Ghia owner. And I'd love to test-drive a Z-28. I've a nice stash of NOS 6V6s and would like an amp for them.

You would definitely have lots of goodness goin' on. Try it. You'll like it. You'll love it. You'll want more of it cheers always, eh Joel

Hi. I too am a Strat-man myself but do enjoy the sound of a hot Tele also. I recently noticed Seymour Duncan has a PU called a "Twang Banger"; it's a tele PU built to fit a Strat. Recommended for the bridge, they make two; one for maple and rosewood necks respectively. Just a thought! I'm gonna give it a try once I get my amp situation settled. Merks.

I love them both through the Z-28. Don't sell the Strat. Just save up for a Tele.

The Z28 loves both guitars, It's a win-win. The Strat is certainly a more versatile guitar, the the bridge pickup by itself is no match for a good Telecaster bridge pickup. The Tele manages to combine twang, harmonics and body all at once. There are a zillion Tele pickups but the Lollar Special series are a very good choice. They have a little more output and mids, but they still sound very authentic without being brittle or ice-pick like.
