Isn't the 12AX7 the same as ECC83? (ECC83 being the British designation). Why are they called out differently in different positions on the Maz tube chart if it's the same tube? Juz wunderin'. (I originally posted this in the Maz18 section- no answers)

Same spec tube. Interchangable. But in the docs case when he specifies an ECC83 it is generally because he prefers the shorter plate JJ tube in that position for tone reasons.
