I have a Prescription ES 2X12 Combo and over the weekend at all volumes i could hear a sort of rattling type sound coming from the amp.Its kinda hard to explain but it sounds sorta like when a light bulb is blown and you shake it around and you can hear the element inside. The amp still sounds killer at all volume levels. Is this normal or is this a tube issue. This is my first Z and i have not had any issues until this point.Any help is appreciated guys. Thanks, Mike

Some say to tighten all the screws. It could also be a tube rattling inside. Take a pencil and tap the tubes one at a time with the eraser and see what happens.

I had the same thing with my Stingray last week. A new Mullard EF86 fixed it right up. Btw, that was a great description...shaking a blown light bulb.

The EF-86 is a very fragile tube, acombo beats the crap out of the EF-86 so I'm sure a new one will fix you up. The Dario Mini Watt is reasonable and sounds really good.
IMO anyone with an EF-86 amp should not leave home with out a spare.
Of the 4 Dr Z EF-86 amps I have had, Two showed up with the EF-86 bottle cracked. Again, combos are really hard on them, ask Doc why there is no Route 66 combo....... ;^)
Tube dampers are reported to help.

I had a slight rattle with my RxES at high volumes.
I placed two tube dampers (from Jim McShane) on all EL84s and the EF86. Eliminated the rattle completely.
Good luck!

Another tube that likes to rattle are the Sovtek GZ34/5AR4 rectifier tubes. If you ever get a chance, buy a Mullard or re-labeled Mullard NOS GZ34. It will last forever and they don't rattle.

Dropping in a Mullard GZ34 also had a positive impact on the feel of the RxES, for my tastes. It is a little more punchy and dynamic than with the stock Sovtek. My grandkids will love the Mullard, too
