Hey guys,
Won a Dr. Z RX (non-ES) head on eBay a few days ago and had a quick question. I noticed there is a footswitch input on the back of the amp and was just wondering what it did. Also, what kind of footswitch should I use with it.
Sorry for the questions, but I bought the amp sight-unseen and have never used a Dr. Z. Just going from the great reviews!

It probably turns on the expand. On my ES, it engaged the overdose...which could be operated by any simple channel switching box. I used a Mesa or the one Dr Z supplied.
Nice score, btw!

Nice score, btw! Dan, I did some reading and it looks like it may be nothing more than a volume boost. Maybe an owner (or previous owner) will chime in, don't want to give you unreliable info!

Hey guys, Won a Dr. The footswitch on the original RX is a volume boost. It does NOT have anything to do with the EXPAND... It would have been cool if it did cause I would have used it that way but as it is... I don't need the volume boost... you DO need an airbreak switch!! lol ;D AND I leave the expand ON ALL THE TIME! another note for you about your new amp is the BRIGHT switch... VERY cool.... three way toggle switch... the way I understood it is in the middle it is neutral ( I never use the middle postion) but switched up ( or in the I position) it's voiced for a single coil and switched down ( or in the II position) it's voiced for a humbucker... I leave mine in the up ( I position) most of the time as i play strats.... BUT it sounds great in BOTH up and down positions.... in the down/ II position it's a WHOLE lot brighter with my single coils which I'm assuming is to compensate for the humbucker pick-up tone... but still sounds great to me for a different little brighter strat sound especially on the neck pick-up... kinda get a little tele-ness outta my strat... may have that backwards, I THINK thats right... but thats the way I use it cause it sounds good... ANYWAY, I saw that amp you picked up and the ORIGINAL STRENGTH RX is a real good amp... I'd hang onto it if you like it if I were you... you can try some new/ NOS and just some different pre-amp tubes in it to voice it like you want... it's not that different in sound than the RX ES it is just WAY more clean...doesn't have the drive the RX ES has... Your original has way more clean headroom than the ES ( but still gets some hair on it) and it's a real BIG tone coming from an el-84 amp, extremely percussive which is one of the things I LOVE about the amp... LOUD.... LOUD... AMP!! enjoy it and let us know what you think after you play it... these amps REALLY shine LIVE... they are just a joy to play. and extremely addictive... Jason

I have to agree with Jason.Rx is an amazing amp.It is LOUD and it likes to be cranked with an Air brake to appreciate its capabilities.Congrats, and happy playing.
