I stopped by my local Z dealer to pickup some knobs for a guitar I am fixin' up and they had a RxES 2x12 combo sitting there, so I figured I would give it a whirl...
Oh boy... I shouldn't have done that, an hour later and I think I can see one in my future!
I actually couldn't believe how great it sounds at low volume, I think I can justify it by calling it a bedroom amp! ;D

I actually couldn't believe how great it sounds at low volume... ;D That was my exact impression...how an amp could feel so alive and the volume was only on 4!

Stumpy Welcome to the club.Same exact feeling we all got when we played our Prescription ES for the first time.By now you have probably been trying to figure out a way to get the amp.Just go ahead and get it before it gets gone and worry about it later you wont regret it.Trust me it will be the last combo you will ever want to own. This great amp does it all.I truly beleive it is one of the most overlooked amps in the Z lineup due to the fact that not enough players have had a chance to expereince it. Let us all know if you get it. See ya Mike

It is an outstanding amp.You may need a Z air brake ,though. This amp is LOUD and must be pushed hard to appreciate its potential,IMO.Welcome to the club,Stumpy.

Beware of exploding notes(in a good way). Air Break is a good idea just in case of volume cops. Low input is cooler than you think also and tames the volume . I was a boutique skeptic till I got one. Let those greenbacks break in a bit (2 gigs or so) too. Sweet amp. If your EF86 starts buzzing try tube dampers. Have fun, its a blast.

I should mention the only thing not good about it is it would be Z#6 for me.... Z#5 is in the mail and I swore I would never need another amp after Z#2 ! When does it end? Is there a shot or something you can get for this? A prescription maybe?

I just got a Stang Ray yesterday. I still want a Route 66, RXES, Maz 18. I'm a Z addict but I'm not asking for help, just donations!

I here ya Billy! I needed a couple pickguard screws so back to the dealer I went! After reading a bit more of the threads here I tried both the Hi and Lo inputs and the over dose. This is a great amp! This particular combo has two greenbacks in it and it sure seems to be a perfect match for this amp. Not sure my back could handle a 2x12 combo though but I can definatley see getting this in a head someday.

I'm sold on separates. My Stang Ray heads weighs about 30 pounds and so does my Dr Z 2 x 10 cab. I'd rather pick up two 30 pound pieces than one 60 pound combo and the 2 x 12 combo is easily 70 pounds. Janinedoubly on here uses a Z 2 x 10 with his RXES head and loves it!

At first I thought the combo was a pain in the arse since I deal with stairs in my home and loading in, ect. But I'll tell you what, now, I kind of like the fact that its one trip. I know the flexibility, as far as speaker selection, is easier too but I've reached the point that I don't want more choices. The damn thing is near perfect as it is. I have a friend who got the Sting Ray head and cab and he says now that he wishes he got the combo. One other thing though. That EF86 probably belongs in a seaperate head for microphonics but since I found those tube dampers I've had no problems. I have alot of stuff so I can pick and choose depending on the venue but, the combination of great tone , flexibility and portability have me grabbing the RXES most of the time. My choices are a 70's SR, '69 DR, JTM45, BF Tremolux, BF Bassman(Scary good), Supro 1x15 combo, Trainwreck Ex. clone, Studio15, and three 2x12 cabs(Old 1936 open, Bassman 2x12 w/ P12q's, Mojo open w/ g12H gb and Weber Blue Dog ) and a one 1x15(Weber F150). They are all dialed in. The BF T-lux through the 1x15 is really cool by the way. Unless its a specific volume or something else its RXES 1st, T-Lux 2nd, DR 3rd. I think that now that I have the Airbreak I could get rid of alot of it.....but I just can't bring myself to do it. Anyway, long winded way of saying "the combo has its advantages too".

You can't go wrong with the RXES. At low volumes you can get that nice tele spank but the louder you go the better it gets and it can get LOUD! Honestly it's the best sounding amp I've ever had or played and I've played many. Check out my clip called "Hangin' With The Doctor" on the RXES page below Paisley.
I'm kinda new around here. Can somebody explain the tube dampers to me? Why do I need them, where do I get them, and how do I install them?
Thanks skip
