(Posted this in "ask the experts," but have yet to see a response from anyone. Thought this might be a better place.)
I have an RXES. I love it. But, it's louder than I need it to be. I tried pulling a pair of the power tubes out today (the outside pair) and the amp seems to work fine, though now at a lower volume.) Are there any negative side effects to using the amp this way? Will I damage it? Will I wear any components faster?

It's been asked before and Z doesn't recommend it. He also said the tubes aren't configured that way. He said they are side by side pairs. On a Fender for example you should double the impedance, say to an 8 ohm load from a 4 ohm, or it will be a mismatch. Doc said don't do it, I don't actually remember if he said why.

Hmmm.... that's right. I do remember him saying the pairs were arranged differently. Hopefully I didn't do something dumb last night when I played it with the outer pair removed for a few minutes. Do you have any idea where the thread is re: this topic? I tried searching and couldn't find it. I would love to read what Z said on the subject.

Do not do this ... I answered in another post on the same subject and billyguitar already noted that you even pulled the tubes in the wrong way with it's split bias supply (which a Mazerati also has).
I never pull tubes in cathode biased amps.
