I've been using Victoria's and Clarks for the last bunch of years. I've also been lusting DR Z's. I'm wondering how the Z28 wopuld compare to say a tweed deluxe with 6V6 tubes. Will it be a little brighter? I'm worried that the

I can't tell from your post what your specific concern is but having had a Vicky Double Deluxe for the past seven years (recently traded for a Stangray which I really like but I do miss the DD ), and currently owning a Z-28, I'll try and respond. I regularly ran the 28 through the DD's two 12A150 speakers so I believe I can make a reasonable comparison. Compared to the DD, the 28 has more highs available and a much tighter bottom end. This is probably why most people compare the 28 to a Brown era deluxe rather than a tweed. The mids are quite different to me with the DD's being more pronounced than the 28's (maybe because the 28 has more highs and lows available so it sounds more balanced?). The OD is also different on the 28. Tweed deluxe breakup...well it's .....tweed and you probably know what it sounds like. The 28 seems to get more Marshally than tweedy as you crank the tone controls past noon and it overdrives. I have to finish by admitting my bias. I love tweed amps and this is the first time in ten years that I have been tweedless. On the other hand, the 28 is probably my overall favorite Z amp and that's saying a lot.

yeah, I kept hitting wrong buttons. I have a Clark 5e7 Bandmaster clone and a Victoria trem de la trem 5e9a. I think you described exactly what I'm looking for. I may be trading the trem de la trem for a Z28, even though I'll miss that amazing trem.thanks Bill

Have you considered the Galaxie?

I thought the Galaxie was more BF Fender oriented, rather than tweed, or is there some tweed in there too?

I thought the Galaxie was more BF Fender oriented, rather than tweed, or is there some tweed in there too? I believe the basic channel is based on a tweed (super?) and I don't know what the OD channel is based on. The OD channel on the two I've played was too over-the-top for my tastes.

Have you considered the Galaxie? Galaxie? Nice clean, tweed-y tones on the clean side a la tweed Super/Pro/low-powered Twin. HOT rock'n'roll on the gain side ;D Z-28? Can go clean to mean depending on how you dial it in. Do believe that many/most folks equate it to a more Brown-face deluxe .... I hear Fender-y and Marshall-y tones in mine Get 'em both ;D
