Hi guys,
I'm new here. Within a few weeks I will be the proud owner of a Maz18 JR NR head. I do have several NOS rectifiers lying around here, including a pair of 1958 RCA 5R4GYs. I saw another thread on swapping the 5AR4 for a 5V4. Now I'm curious if the Maz can handle a 5R4GY. Anyone?
Thanks! Jacco The Netherlands

Jacco,
I use a 5R4GYB to replace the stock GZ34 in my Rt. 66. Mike Zaite says 5U4s can be used safely in any Z Amp so you should be more than safe with a 5R4GBY in your Maz. Doc does not cut corners on his PTs. ;D

By using the 5R4GYB you will be cutting your headroom, I use this tube in several different Z's and always in my Mazerati's . It will cut your output wattage about 6 to 8 watts give or take a little on most amps and these tube have more sag as well. I think you would be pleasently surprised at how good those old tubes sound although I have never used a 5R4GYB in my Maz18jr (never felt the need to) they work great in taming a higher wattage amp !!
