I am in Canada and since there are only two Z dealers in the entire country finding a used Z is a challenge, especially if you are after a specific model. I've checked out a few used Ghias in the US however the cost of international shipping, sales tax charged at the border plus the generally high resale value achieved on used Z amps was making it prohibitive. There is a happy ending though, and this should provide renewed faith for all of us that have worked hard on scrounging up a piece of gear that at first seemed impossible! Not sure if you are familiar with Diamond Pedals however they are a new line of boutique pedals being manufactured in Nova Scotia (Check them out-they are getting great reviews). I noticed on their website that a bunch of sound clips were done with a Carmen Ghia head. On a whim I emailed them and asked if they would consider selling. A couple of days went by (they were at NAMM) and Mike responded saying that they were just in the process of recycling some of their studio gear and yes they would sell the Ghia. Very fair price and shipped to my door with no taxes or duties! Perserverance does pay off! The Ghia should be here tonight! ;D ;D

Thanks guys! I got the Ghia home last night. It was late and I didn't have a lot of time to play with it but so far I love it! I see huge potential with some tweaking too! At first I had my Z single 12 open back cab loaded with a Weber 12F150 ceramic. It sounded good but had a very early break up (about 9 o'clock) and my initial reaction was that it wasn't very loud. I then tried an old Traynor 2x10 closed back cabinet that I have with Weber alnicos in it. This seemed to give it a bit more headroom and clarity but surprisingly the low end got a little looser. I then popped the Vintage 30 back in the Z cab and WOW!! Without question Celestion speakers are a fine, fine match with this amp! Big increase in volume and headroom and the tone just blossomed! Tonight I'm going to have to swap out the Weber alnico Blue Dog that is in my Deluxe Reverb and see how that sounds. In my humble opinion it is the only speaker for a Deluxe Reverb and I'll be interested in how it matches up with the Ghia. I am loving it!

That's my main rig, Ghia head/Z 1x12/V-30, I have not tried a bunch of speakers, just did not see a need, That combo just "works" GREAT job bird doggin' that Ghia head too !!
