How much clean headroom can you get from a mini z? Just looking for a bit of the Mesa Lonestar Special sound in a Dr Z.

practically none, although you can get a gritty clean rolling back the volume on your guitar. It's a great dirt though and records really well.

That's what I thought. Didn't know if the attenuator gave you any more headroom.

Have anyone tried to put another preamp tube in to get a cleaner sound by rolling back the guitar´s volume?

That's what I thought. Didn't know if the attenuator gave you any more headroom. The attenuator would give you less headroom. This is an attenuator's design. To run the amp into power tube clipping yet reduce the volume. Probably tweaking around the tubes will give more clean headroom, but this am is really a practice / recording amp. The Ghia for $200 more will give you the clean headroom you need if you are shopping around for a clean, low volume amp.
