I have only spent about 30 minutes playing my Ghia. I got it used. I think I like it better than my Maz! It sounds awesome. THe clean is great. At 9pm it isn't breaking up much and at 12 it still has some clean. I think this gig will be great to gig with and I think it will have almost as much headroom as my Maz. Whats everyones experience with this? I play a lot of gigs with a wedding band and need a good clean tone. I almost always mic. my amp and run it through the monitors.

I'm gonna use the Ghia instead of my Maz Friday night. We have a soundman that night so I guess I can get it in my monitor if I need too.

I play in a trio, but I might have a hard time getting the drummer to play down to my level. He's pretty loud, but I think the pa will even things out. I rarely play without a mic. in front of my amp.

I've played with drummers that just would not quiet down. One singer I used to work with before his untimely demise, commented on a drummer we had "Everytime he hits those toms it goes right up my butt bone!". Loud drummers don't last long in my band. A drummer is supposed to be a musician, implying musicality. If a drummer can't sound good soft then he's not being a good musician and will probably cost you some gigs.

(how do you get those dinky little boxes to appear around other peoples quotes? This forum could really use a 'users' guide!! OK, dont tell me, there is one. Where is it then?)
Back to the plot. That made me smile. Quite a lot. What do you do then when the 'loud' drummer runs the band? Quit, I hear you say, but, great band, nice guy, excellent drummer, good bunch of mates etc.. so quit is not an option. I'm very tempted to pass billyguitars view on this on to him but its just a little too close to the mark!! (I have tried all the old drummer jokes - what do you call someone who hangs around with musicians etc etc - no effect whatsoever).
But.... my amp downsizing strategy (Boogie -> Ghia), as well as saving my back (and vastly improving my tone) , is also a ploy to make him moderate a bit!!! Some hope.

Since you got this used, what tubes are in V1 and V2? Normally a Ghia will start to break at 9:00 if you hit the strings hard and at 12:00 it is not what I would call clean.

Dave, If a drummer's getting the gigs and he can get repeat bookings wear earplugs and rock out with your c**ck out!

I know this is going to be a dumb question, but how do I know which one is V1 and V2. It stays fairly clean around 9 and at 12 it has some hair. I think part of it is that I have a fairly light touch.

squeallydan -
V1 is the first preamp tube, and V2 is the second one (closest to the power tubes)...

Maybe what I consider clean is different than the norm, but it seems fairly clean at 9oclock. Thats with a Mesa 1x12 closed cab.
By the way, I love this amp more and more. I've been gigging with it instead of my Maz18. As long as I can keep it clean enough it will be fine. It seems like as long as I am using the monitors to get a little more volume I am fine. Its just so easy and sounds so dang good. I find myself wanting to plug in just to hear that amp. The GHIA RULES!

I find it greatly depends on the guitar and pickups your hitting it with. Use a strat and yeah, it's gonna stay clean or at least cleanish up until about noon if you've got a light touch... But with 'buckers, especially if they're a little higher output, then it's already starting to dirty up at 9-10 o'clock even with a light touch. Rolling the guitar volume back to around "6" things up great too.
