I found a thread comparing the Mazerati to the original Rx but not the RxES. I have an RxES and really love it. I run it through an Avatar 2x12 with an Alnico Blue Dog and G12H30. I've been reading some threads in this forum and kind of think I might like a Mazerati, possibly even more than i like my RxES. Only reason I say that is because I play mostly indie rock and from what I've read, the Rati may be more of a rock amp due to the increased mids. I've never played a Mazerati though so I thought I'd ask here. I have played a Stang....i did like it but not as much as my RxES. I had a Ghia 2x10 before my RxES and really like the RxES tone more than i did the Ghia tone. Another reason I thought I might like the Rati more is because i like getting most of my overdrive/distortion from a good pedal and i'm not sure where the Rati breaks up compared to the RxES. i get more dirt from my RxES than I really would like but I still love it either way. Ok....on with the responses

Ok here I go.....
I had a RxES and now have a Rati..... (and a Ray). The Rati does have a stronger mid range voice to it than either amp (RxES or Ray), it's also got a smoother top end than the RxES (I always ran my treb about 1 or 2 on the RxES and sometimes thought this was too much). The RxES has more overdrive on tap and the Rati doesn't break up until about 11:00-11:30. The feel of the amps (RxES vs Rati) are pretty close, real percussive at lower volumes and more responsive to picking at higher volumes. The Rati does smooth out a bit more than the RxES and feels like it has more "bounce" to it, but not as much as the Ray. The Rati's mid voice actually reminds me of a Marshall, but the feel of the amp reminds me of a AC30.
I'd say if the Stangray and the RxES got married and had a baby, that baby would be the Mazerati (Maybe with a little AC30 in the wood pile somewhere too).
Did any of that make sense?

ya man, that makes sense......i'm just not sure if I want that extra midrange or not though. I can't really tell by just playing my RxES and not have the Rati right beside it if you know what I mean. The whole Stang/RxES having a baby thing sounds perfect to me....especially if the Rati has just a bit more headroom than the RxES. And i hear what you're saying about the RxES having a ton of top end. I'll probably just end up finding a Mazerati I like and buying it and then deciding which one I want to keep. I definitely do not have the money to keep both amps.....even though I'm sure it will the hard to sell whichever one i decide against Telejas, do you know of anyone that has either a 2x12 Mazerati combo or a head version for sale? I PMed Don for the BST section password but haven't gotten a reply yet. I need to make sure it is a post-2003 to be sure that it has that extra headroom rather than the pre-2003 models i think.

I had my Rati up for trade, for one day.... I was wanting a Ghia, but I played the Rati today and deleted my post. I see Rati's go on here every now and then, and I know a guy that has a 1x12 combo for sale here on the board, and I've met him personally and he's a good guy too (Fiestared69)! I've seen 2x12's go for $1200-$1600 and 1x12's go for $1050-$1300 on ebay and TGP (thegearpage.net).
yes, for more head room you want a post 2003 model.....
I actually like my Rati more than my Ray for Rock music, it takes pedals for the rock stuff better than any Z I've played so far. I hate saying that about my Ray, but it excels in other areas and takes pedals great too, but not like the Rati.

Keep in mind that a 2x12 is gonna weigh about 75-80 pounds. Just some FYI.

I have owned a Stangray , Ghia, and Rxjr and although they are great amps I'm more at home with the Mazerati! Like the Guitar Player review, this is a working musicians amp ,two Knobs ,Volume and Tone make it easy to get your sound in any room you play. These amps, well lets say I have yet to find a pedal they don't like!
I have two Mazerati's at this time a RED HEAD +Red 2x12 with Celestion blues and a black 1x12 combo. The head being a 2006 model and the combo being 2004 model both sound equally as good. I just got a 2x10 Red combo cab that I'm thinking about puting the chassis out of the combo in. I do like the sound of the Mazerati through 2x10's.

I really hope you find a buyer for that 1x12 on ebay right now. She looks like a beauty! if I had the money I'd be getting it for myself. As for working musicians amp, Dave "bluesteel" on the forum here is a perfect example of one who sings the praises of this simple yet toneful design. Hmmm. If only my credit card wasn't maxed out.
