Has anyone else seen that Bad Cat is soon releasing the Classic Cat, which to me looks like a direct ripoff of the Carmen, with only Tone/Volume controls and 20watts Class A. Worst of all it will be around $1000 which is in direct competition with Z.

This just gives us players more options to choose from. Have you read about the new Z Stingray? Very much like an AC30. You've heard of Jim Marshall, right? Didn't he copy a certain amp from Leo Fender and put different power tubes in it? Hey, didn't Z base his Carmen Ghia, on a Hammond organ amp design. I think Top Hat and Bad Cat both had mini amps out long before the Mini Z. Hey "Mini Z"..."Mini Me". I wonder where that came from Mr. Powers? Relax. It's all good.

I agree... Z's amps hold their own in any arena. I can't see the Classic Cat hurting sales of the Ghia in any way.
Overall, it's always good for us as players to have more options AND competition amongst amp makers, even if my loyalty in the end does reside with Dr. Z.

The Classic Cat is a 6v6 amp, it'll have a different flavor overall. Even if you play all Z amps, you have more than one amp right?

I heard it at NAMM. Cool amp, but TOTALLY different than my Ghia. The price is more like $1500. It doesn't sound as sweet down low (around 9 o'clock) as the Ghia. You can't really play loud on the floor (the db meter gestapo will get you). My local shop should be getting one in the next month or so. Talking with James, I get the idea that you could probably have a Ghia, Z-28 and Classic Cat without much overlap.
They also had a 4 6V6 prototype called the "Panther". THAT was a killer amp!!!

I really like bad cat amps. They're pretty distinct in terms of preamp voicing. More like a matchless than a Z. I expect the pricing will be a bit steep here in Canada, typically they are about 50% more than z for a similar amp.

The Bad Cats are undoubtedly nice amps but the bigger ones are just too heavy. Let alone pricey. To me the Hot Cat lead channel was too high gain so no go. The only other Bad Cat thing I've had any experience with was the 2-Tone pedal and it wasn't a big enough improvement over my regular o/d pedal to keep so I sent it back. Zdogma: I see you have a Kingsley. I would like to try one of those!

Yeah, the Kingsley's are excellent. Built like a tank and a unique sound. Very different from Z's soundwise. His clips on the site (www.kingsleyamplifiers.com) are very accurate.
I'd post a picture if I could figure out how.
Mine is kind of unique-it has 1 KT66 (single ended) and a celestion blue speaker. It also has a slave out that I run into a big mesa boogie tube power amp sometimes.
They will build whatever you want-a truly custom shop.

I agree with guitarman1. All these guys building amps are taking it the next step further. Taking a good design, putting there own twist on it, and moving us all forward. And the next guy will do the same thing. Basically every design out there started from either Fender or Marshall, and look at all the great amps that are on the market today.

My point exactly. I see you have a Shiva...great amp!

I love my Shiva, but my back doesn't! LOL It's the amp that all my other amps are measured by. It's the best 2 channel amp around. It's a really flexable amp, and it sounds just as good at low volume's as it does cranked. BUT....... It won't do what my 38 and my 28 do, that's why I bought them. I love Z amps and I'll buy at least 1 or 2 more and a couple more cabs as well. Anything to broaden my tonal possabilities. I see you have a Warmoth Strat too. Nice guitars man.

A man can never have too many amps (just before she hit me with a frying pan). I had a 6L6 combo, sold it and got an EL-34 head with a 2x12 over-sized cab. Loved 'em both. I'm going to post some pics of my new Warmoth as soon as it comes back from Phil Jacoby in Baltimore. He is installing a Feiten Tuning System and doing a PLEK fret job.
