No, not a Z-28, a Ghia! I took one in partial trade on another amp and have been having a ton of fun with it since it arrived last week. My only other experience with a Z was over 10 years ago (a Maz something or other, I think) and it left me cold, so I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm liking the Ghia so much. It's running into a THD 2x12 loaded with a G12H30 and Red Fang. I've settled on a NOS Tungsram 12AX7 in V1 and the "stock" NOS 5751 and 5Y3. It's a really nice fit with my G&L Bluesboy for the alt.country stuff I do.
So why am I posting about a Ghia in the Z-28 forum? Well, if you haven't guessed already, I pulled the trigger on a gold panel 28 on eBay today. ;D From all I've read here and elsewhere, it should complement the Ghia quite nicely. I'm hoping it also pairs well with the THD cab. It would be great to be able to A/B the two heads into the same cab (though I do have other options cab-wise).
Oh, and speaking of cabs, next on the G.A.S. list is a Z 2x10. All of my other cabs have 12" speakers, so I really should get some 10's into the mix!

I went the same way. I had a Ghia nd then got a Z-28 a little later. Unfortunately I just sold them because I was a little cash strapped recently. I'm really surprised however that you didn't like the Maz. The are one of the most versatile amps on the market, period!

To be fair, it was so long ago (maybe as far back as '95) that I'm not even certain it was Maz. It was an odd one though - 1x12 combo, green tolex, black metal grille (yep!) and, IIRC, some sort of Mesa speaker (a Black Shadow maybe?). I was in touch with the Dr. at the time, and he distinctly remembered that amp. It may even have been a one-off. In any case, I was pretty much a Fender guy at the time and that Z was just too much of departure. I may have a completely different opinion if I were to play it now. Times have changed...for the better!

If I never have the opportunity to add more Z's to my Z-28 and CG...I will still be quite happy!

The Ghia with a Red Fang is a thing of beauty, as is the Z28 with a 212 cab. Together it's a fantastic combination! Brett

spread some Fang around, its a great speaker IMHO. don;t get the props it should because its called a Blue clone. I have had blues and replaced them with the Fang, I like the emi better. solid bass, full mids, and bell tone highs, no icepick, no cone cry. I am thinking of using one in my MAZ 38 as well. that said, the 28 is a killer amp. I like that gold front thing as well. enjoy em.
