Just got up and thought I'd see if anyone can point me in a reasonable direction. During our second set last night, my Ghia went quiet without any warning...no burps beforehand. I've got no power light and the fuse is fine. At least there was no smoke...ha. When my head clears this morning, I'm going to open it up and poke around (I know about discharging caps, so no worries). I'm competant with a soldering iron, but I'm no electrical tech, by any means. Any ideas what might cause a catastrophic failure like this? I'll call Mike on Monday if I dont' get anywhere with it this weekend. Thanks.

Same thing happened to my '95 Ghia, only I had a little smoke as well. Sent it to the doc and it came back a week later twice the little beast it was previous. The conjuctive filter was replaced, was re-tubed & whatever else he does tweakwise.

Mad - Yeah, I'm worried that it's something like a component....in other words, something I can't fix myself. No idea how to troubleshoot components. The Doc's trannies are generally so beefy that it's hard to believe that I lost a transformer. Smoke from your amp? My son called me a wuss this morning because the amp blew with no smoke. There was a fight in the bar, though....... Weird night altogether.

Cliff,
I know your bummed, but madison's right...definitely get in touch with DR Z and SEND it back to him....I had a problem w/ my reverb in the MAZ 38, took about three weeks total turnaround (and I think it depends on how busy he is)
was WORTH it...mine was NOT under warranty, what he charged was extremely reasonable, also came back re-tubed and a MONSTER!!! can't get any better customer service, period!! just another reason why I use and will continue to use Z amps!!!!

Jason - Thanks for the advice. I'm aware of Z's great customer service. I've talked to him on numerous occasions, and in fact, he modified a Maz 38 Invasion head that I had for a while...installed a mid boost switch. I will definitely send it to him if necessary. It would be nice to fix it myself if possible, though. On the other hand, mine is an old one. I've had it since the late 90's, and maybe it needs a tune up. I dunno. I'm going to poke around in the chassis tomorrow, just to see if anything jumps out at me. Thanks again.
