Sorry if this has already been covered, but, I couldn't find an answer.
I have a 2-12 Z open-back cab with a Weber blue 30w alnico and a Weber silver 30w alnico. How do you guys think that speaker combo would sound with the Z28? I'm very tempted to pick one up, but not so tempted to change the speakers in my cab too.
I currently have a RXJR and really like it but I want something a little warmer and Fender-ish. The Blue/Silver combo with the RXJR is fantastic, but I don't want to swap heads and have to live with a compromise in speakers.
Thanks in advance for the input........

I was afraid someone would say that........ :-) I was playing my RXJR after I posted this and man it would be hard to let it go. I've got a lot of thinking to do. I WANT both, but I don't NEED both nor can I AFFORD both. Argggggggghhhhh

This isn't answering your question exactly but thought I'd share to get your speaker GAS levels up there.
I used a Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell combo (both 50W alnico) in a Vicky DD (5e3 x 2). Granted it's not a Z-28 but it's running 6v6 output tubes, is close to 40watts and just like the Z28 sounds killer when played loud! After that the similarities are less but this is about my impression of speakers.
The BD & SB combination is nice for a few reasons. 1) being 50W speakers they are less efficient and allow me to run the amp volume control higher without too many 'too loud' complaints. The 30w version will be more efficient and a little more edgy, which can be a good thing. 2) huge bottom - this speaker combination provided a huge pant leg vibrating thud factor! 3) Sweet highs and fine definition between the speakers. Speakers selection is so subjective, one mans nirvana is another mans loathing. For me this speaker combination is one of my all time favorites. Smooth smooth smooth and creamy tones. BTW: Another one of my favs is 2 Dr Z 10s on a combo amp. The Dr Z 10s are loud (efficient) punchy well balanced speakers that sound wonderful when pummeled.

I know what you mean about that big bottom from the webers. My RXJR has lots of bass for a 15w amp, especially with 2 12's. Believe it or not, it will still get them to break up a little at higher volumes but not too much where the bottom end gets squashed. I originally picked the webers up when I had my MazJR and it sounded good with them too. Ultimately, I'd like to get a 1-12 with a Gold so I don't have to lug around a 60lb cab when I don't need that much. Anybody tried a single gold with the Z28?

I have an Avatar open back 2x12 with 2 Celestion golds. Don't want to spoil your fun but truthfully my Z 4x10 cab sounds better to me with the Z28! ArnieZ

You will just have to play them side by side to make your final decision. When you have both amps in front of you it will be an easier decision. Still not an easy decision, but it will make it easier.
