And it was FUN! I decided that the coolest strat amp I have here is the Maz 18 - by a mile. So I set up an A/B using the Radial Headbone. I had my G12-65 Convertible on the bottom, the Maz 18 (with internal Brake Lite) on top of that, the Remedy on top of that, an Airbrake and the Headbone on top of that! So I had the best of all worlds there tonight - the Maz 18 for the clean strat tones, and the Remedy for solos and the Les Paul. And OH MY it sounded fine. I was surprised though by a couple of things. One is no one told me to turn down despite going from half power and a couple clicks on the Airbrake, to thru on the Airbrake, to full power and a couple clicks on the Airbrake. It was getting a bit on the loud side by the end of the night, but it was SMOKING good. The other is it sounded really great for the Strat for certain kinds of tones that I've not been going for. For a cover band, this setup is almost perfect because it covers all of the great tones that inflluenced me, from clean 3D in the Maz Jr, to crunchy Maz Jr, to crunchy Remedy, to over the top Remedy - dang, it don't get much better than this!

hmmm, sounds like you won't be needing that Stangray ;D I think a Stang and Route 66 would cover a great deal for me

One, dirty midrange punch, the other, recessed mids with crispy clean sparkle. If I had to pick ONE amp for a Police cover band: Maz 18 NR Sorry for hijacking...back to the Remedy thread....

I have yet to Stratisfy my Remedy, but I have used a Tele with it at a gig, a LP and a ES335. The tone made me feel like a rockstar with all of em so far. I want to run it with my RxJr sometime, but it will be a while before I have a gig opportunity with that set up. Steve??

Don't get me wrong - the Strat sounded great through the Remedy. I don't think I'll need my pedals at all if I do the dual-head setup with the Remedy for lead tones. But to be honest, my heart is with the Les Paul on this amp. I grew up listening to Clapton and a whole host of other guys playing this exact tone. The Strat tones are far and away better than any of my pedals, without question. The Les Paul tones are utterly devastating.

I haven't seen Coit around here too often lately either. Looks like the Doc has finally done it and created the be all and end all blues/rock small to medium gigging tonal masterpiece. I better start saving my pennies, looks like I'm going to be playing my new Explorer a lot more than I thought.

Have you not heard Tony's bluesy, rocking, no pedals needed tonal masterpieces? [ducks and runs for cover]

In fact the Galaxie I used to own was one that came to me via Texas, then,Winchester, Tenn and got T'rockerized in a smoke free, I mean smoke filled studio ;D. My wife wasn't too happy about that but I just told her you can't have a good blues rig unless it wreaks of Marlborough filters and Tennessee whiskey. ;D I was forced to sell it and a couple of others, (Ghia and Z28) to raise funds for my business but I'm not too upset as I have a bigger fish to fry soon that also comes with 6L6's.

Hey John, I wasn't so much thinking switch back and forth as I was having both on for a stereo clean. Get the upper tonal presence of the Ray and the mids of the 66 together. The Maz 18 would sound awesome in a Police band but I think it would lack the headroom I need for that gig. Probably need about 40watts ;D ;D

It wasn't me that was complaining old bud. It was the old lady. She's a keeper, my girl, but she doesn't understand the whole guitar thing. I actually miss all the old school guitar shops out there with heaps of 2nd hand gear that was played in and had seen lots of smokey bars and stages with prices on them that was within the reach of us mere mortals. It musn't just be me either if you consider the latest craze, relics that are fakes of road worn and battered guitars and amps. Go figure? Anyway as always I'm straying away from the topic but I just want to say although the Galaxie got sold unfortunately, I am nevertheless thankful to you Tony for what you did for me not too long ago.

The Strat tones are far and away better than any of my pedals, without question. The Les Paul tones are utterly devastating. Steve, As it turns out I also have a Remedy head, and a Maz Jr NR 2x10. I also have a Dr. Z 1x12, and just put a Celestion Alnico Gold in it. I echo all of your comments in your first two posts on this thread. I have a big, nice sounding room here at home to open up an amp in, and the Remedy reminds me so much of my 50 watt Plexis, and in particular a model 2204 JMP 50 watt head!!! It does that violin tone big classic rock Cream/Duane tone so well, it's THE REAL DEAL!! One thing........since I put the Gold in my 1x12 convertable cab (I took the middle and bottom back panels off, so it's open backed), I really like the tone I'm getting out of a Strat. It's chimey with lots of overtones, esp. when I back off of the guitar's volume knob a bit. There is no doubt that the Maz Jr. NR 2x10 sound special with a Strat. But, the Gold and the Remedy lead to some fine Strat tones as well. One other thing.........The Klon does wonders with both the Remedy and the Maz Jr.......instant lead to die for on either amp. What with it being Easter and all, and springtime, I've recreated your "Dr. Z Stack" with my surf green gear, and have it in the family room...........TISS THE SEASON!!
