I currently own a bunch of old fenders and a great maz 18 which i am giving alot of love to lately, just great all around amp. Wondering if the Z-28 is a good slide amp for allmans/ derek trucks / Warren Haynes type tones? Using a hertiage 535 or another humbucker equipped guitar for this purpose.

I did this song with a Tele and a Z28 head and a Z 1X12 bottom with only an echo pedal in the chain. There's some slide work in the middle and end of the song. soundclick.com/share?songid=4771825I think the Z28 fits your description of what you want. I usually use a Marshall head when I'm out live for volume requirements, so I'm always surprised when I light up the Z28 at practice or messing around. It really grabs ahold of notes when playing slide.. I definitely have more sustain, even with less gain if that makes any sense.

One of the clips on the DrZ site in the Z28 section is exactly that- beautiful slide tone. go to the sounds section at the bottom - it says Z-28 sound sample and Greag Lockhart is credited. Doesn't get much better! Brett

bustertheboy & others: I have the amp Greg Lockhart was playing thru, and it still sings! I don't play slide thru it, but it's a great rock & blues amp.
Greg had to sell it for medical reasons, and I bought it a couple of years back.
I haven't heard from him, but I hope he's doing O.K.
I've always wanted my harp player to try his whistles thru my Z-28. I bet that would be a sweet sound.
Best, Texas Jim in St. Croix

bustertheboy: My 2-10 is an '03 and it's got the gold face also.
I usually play my Parker NiteFly SA thru it with V= 1 or 2, B=2 & T=3.
On occasion, I will put everything to three. I have a 2-10 extension cab with Z-10's that I sometimes put under the Z-28, so I effectively have a 4-10. It doesn't get much louder, it just seems to move more air and gives me a bigger sound.
The best player here used it at a gig, and we dimed everything for him. Boy, did it sound great! He was playing a recent Strat (maybe ten years old)thru it, with a loud rock band and came thru even with the bass player from hell.
Enjoy, Texas Jim
