I've posted a few times on the Maz Sr. section, but this is a first here on the Ghia section. I was surfing Ebay yesterday and fell in love with the looks of a blond Ghia head with a reddish figured mahogany panel...really stunning. Well I bid on it and never thought I'd get it for $835.00. Even though I haven't received it yet, I'm starting to get a little buyer's remorse. I'm hoping it will sound as good as it looks. I use a Maz Sr 1x12 combo loaded with am Emi Swamp Thang along with a 1x12 extension cab loaded with an Emi Tonker. This is a very punchy & big sounding rig with lots of low end. I usually run it clean, with a Barber Silver Direct Drive for some hair/breakup and a Stampede SOV-1 for some Dumble to Classic Rock sounds. I'm hoping the Ghia, with the right speaker, can give me a sweeter & spongier tone with more open/airy mids and nice break up at reasonable volumes. Also hoping to get some nice chime. While I LOVE my Maz Sr. It is a bit stiff for a tube rectified amp. Is there more "give" with the Ghia? How do guys think the Ghia will compare? Is it more Vox/Tom Petty sounding than the Maz Sr?

Not sure but I think I turned you on to the Tonker Swamp combo, trust me , Im waiting on my Red Head ,and BW brought his Ghia over and left it with me . it sounds awsome with those two speakers. hard to belive its a 15 watt amp . the overtones will flat kill you

I really liked it allot, but also wanted something with a British flavor. Since the Tonker has the same sensitivity as the Swamp Thang, I gave it a try. I really enjoy the combination of the two.

I think you are going to find you made a great purchase. It is a MUCH different amp than your MAZ and it has low end that you will find just spooky. When you get the amp in hand, hit each string on your guitar and listen to the string to string balance. If you can find ANY amp that has better balance please let me know as I have not been able to find one. .... Z or non-Z.

Well I got the Ghia and it does sound really sweet. Great articulation, rich harmonics and LOUD....wow! One thing I really like is that it has more give/sag than my Maz...less stiff. This will be great for my blues gigs. It came with a Mazda GY3GB, 2 GT EL-84s, 1 GE 5751 & 1 GT 12AX7. Are there any tube I can use to get this amp to break up more at lower volumes? The Ebay ad stated the front panel was mahogany, but I've never seen figuring like this on mahogany. If anyone cares to take take a guess at what this wood is, I'll be glad to send some pics. Thanks again to all of you Z-Nuts for your help & support! Rt. 66.....Now where's my credit card?

There are a lot of them. If you don't know but send a pix of the tube I can give you some ideas for it's replacement to get where you want to go.

The GT 12AX7 in my Ghia is simply marked 12AX7/7025. I would post some pics, but I can't find a way to do it. Anybody know how to post photos?
