I've had my Z28 head for a year and being so travel friendly use it as my cruise ship gig amp.I just run it through the speaker of whatever the house amp is, and in this case it's a 1x12 Mesa Lonestar Special.OK so perhaps not the best speaker match, but far, far better then actually playing through the Mesa. I'm very impressed with the actual output of this amp , despite it's 22 watts, and am surprised to frequently read of it being run through a single Greenback, and even in an open back cab. I have an 8 month Mediterranean cruise ship contract coming up and will bring along a speaker that's a better match.I've not had the chance to try it with a 25, tho I do own H30's and V30's.It sounds like the 25 is a popular match, but in your experience would you consider it the right match for a 6 night/wk gigging Z28 ? I pretty well stick with settings around 1-3/3/3 depending on the material. Thanks for your coments. Daz

Hi daz,
You don't say what type of music you are planning to play. I prefer the Weber 12A150 or 12F150 with my Z-28 because I'm trying to enhance the Fenderish tones. I have other Z's and speakers for the Voxy \ Marshally side of things. My overall favorite 1x12 so far has been a 25 watt 12F150. I also liked the 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell and 50 watt ceramic Blue Dog in 1x12 cabs with the Z-28.

I love my Greenback with my Z28. I use it in an open back, and am really curious what it'd sound like in a closed back. I'm thinking of picking up one soon just to try it.
Any closed back Greenback users here?

I always used the greenback indoors w/ a Z-28, and any number of more efficient speakers outdoors. I would imagine volume would be an issue on a cruise ship, and the greenie would do a superb job.

I second Madisons response. I have a closed back cab that I run mine in. Sounds fan-friggin-tastic. Paul

Just ordered a 112 Avatar Vintage closed back to go along with my open back. I'm buying a C-Blue from Curt to put into the open back.

Thanks for the response lads, I'm a regular Les Paul - bluesy / classic rock player covering 50's to modern with the ship band.I've used an RXES before and am very happy with the Z28 covering Bill Hailey, to Zeppelin to Police and whatever there is now.The output is sufficient to keep me heard.I just thought perhaps a single Greenback would be pushing it a bit seeing as this is a pretty potent 22 watts.I have almost no 25 watt experience having mostly run H and V30's and my old 4x12 with 20's has'nt been used in years.I would've thought a single 25 in an open cab with the amp wound up would be pushing it, but I guess they're more robust.

I wouldn't worry about the greenback holding up. Dr. Z. sells his 1x12 combo's with a greenback in them. I got about a year ago, and push it hard all the time - I've had no problems.

Hi all, just a quick update on this thread. I installed a new Greenback in an open back cab this week (actually an awful cyber-twin amp) and ran my Z28.It lasted approximately 3 sets over 2 nights and now I have voice coil rub. Now I'm not questioning the previous responses I got here, but I always had the gut feeling that a single 25 would be pushed a bit hard with the Z28.It's a loud 22 watts with JJ 6V6's. I'm not thrashing away trying to play metal, but I use the common 1-3 o'clock setting on all knobs .... which provides great classic rock tones with an R8 Les Paul. I'm gigging on a cruise ship on our way to the Med and we play a variety of music. It's a great sounding and easy travelling amp.I got the Greenback for a decent price but there's no return policy.Oh well. It's back to the Celestion T100 that's stock in the cybertwin. Cheers all. Daz
