i dont see a lot of talk about el34's up in these parts....so i thought i would share.
i just put winged c's in my srz-65 and they sound awesome. it gives such a dynamic tone (esp on a high gain setting)....now i just have to figure out what to use for my preamp tubes and rectifier to complement the c's and i'll be all set!

My Fuchs Lucky 7 only has 1 power amp tube and it can take either a 6L6, 6V6, or EL34 type tube. After trying about 7 different tubes the Winged "C" EL34 took it's lone permanent spot in there. But at 7 watts that single tube cranks out the goods.

That's what I'm running in my Trainwreck Express clone. Nice tube. I also like the EH 6CA7. For the recto, I'd highly recommend looking for a nice old Mullard GZ34/5AR4 tube rectifier. If you can't find a Mullard for a decent price, pretty much any old production rectifier will be an improvement over the stock Sovtek. As far as preamp tubes, I used an old Mullard 12AX7, but the GT 12AX7M (their "Mullard reissue") is a nice sounding option. To be honest, I probably wouldn't mess with the other preamp tubes.
Hope this helps, bs

The Winged C's were my favorite in the last EL-34 amp I had (Bad Cat Hot Cat). That amp absolutely ATE power tubes about every 6 months so I got to try lots of different brands.

The winged C's are terrific. Tone, life, reliability. Very nice tube.
