Hey everyone, I just got my used ghia in today, a ghia head with a 1x12 old style cab with i believe a weber classic series alnico speaker. There is a link below to view the back of the ghia head because I was wondering if I was in 8 or 4 ohms, and what does the left "knob" do, looks like you could put a flathead screw driver and turn it, just wondering what that does? and if i am not in 8 ohms, is there anyway to have the option or vice versa? I'm thinkin about putting a vox blue celestion speaker in it. I just wasn't sure about all of that. The link is here below. Thanks everyone! photobucket.com/albums/a332/pata320/?action=view¤t=60_1.jpg

Hi pata320. Congrats on your Ghia! Can't see your photo right now (link said photobucket scheduled maintenance). But looking at the back of my Ghia, the 4 ohm jack is on the right, just to the left of that is the 8 ohm jack, and just to the left of that is the fuse holder. It is not a knob. The flathead screw slot is how you access the fuse.

Is there any way to access 8 ohms or would i have to send it in to the Doc? Also, is there anything else in the older model besides the ohms, that is different than the current one.

What do you mean by "access 8 ohms" ?
For what it's worth, the Dr. has told me that the Ghia can safely drive 4, 8, and 16 ohm cabs even if you only have the single output tap... The OT is robust enough to handle the mismatch, and in fact, I actually prefer to run the Ghia from it's 8 ohm output tap into a 4 ohm cabinet... I like the way the amp sweats and sings a little more than usual even.
Only downside is that you may wear out your output tubes a little bit more quickly, but if you're using the JJ's, they're both tough, and inexpensive so it's not really a big deal at all.
For the record, the Ghia's fuse is a 1.5 amp slo blo fuse... (always a good idea to keep a few spares in your gig bag)
