Anyone using Tone Tubby's with their Maz38? I have been toying with the idea as I hear they sound great but then I have heard a few people say they were darker sounding speakers. Just looking for some first hand information.

I loaded all Z Cabs here with Tone Tubby Original H1 Hemp Cones (darkest recipe). I put em' in Z-Bests, 1x12's, 4x10's and 2x10's. The Amps are either MAZ Seniors or MAZ Juniors and there is plenty of crisp high-end...(not too dark). I think these speakers are PERFECT for these Amps! Lots of highs and lows with all the clarity you could ask for. Mark

So, you find the Tone Tubby's an upgrade over the speakers that came stock in the Z-Best? That is what I currently run, but in an Avatar Cabinet.

I'm not sure if "upgrade" is the right word, but with the MAZ Senior I think they sound clear, yet warm and smooth.....No harshness, but plenty of high-end crispness. Big, round bottom-end too. Maybe I got sucked in by the hype around these speakers 5 years ago.....but I've yet to hear anything I like better. Mark

Before getting on topic, let me tell you that 4 ohms is the way to go with this amp regardless of speaker. Onward...I have tried too many speakers to count and have settled on TT's with ceramic magnets for my 2x10. For many years I used EV Force 10's that were mighty powerful. In my 2x12's I have Jensen Neodymiums in one and Eminence Swamp Thangs in the other. The TT's are used in smaller live gig settings in an open back (almost square shaped) cabinet that is 10 1/2" deep. They are plenty loud and break up just a bit when Vol & Master and dimed. Nice grind. With the Tele I use a Hep Cat pedal and get a full mean KRRRAAAANG that is very old school sounding. I have the mids and treble up pretty high and the bass and cut backed off. My cabinet was custom made by Leyland Sound in Ottawa Ontario and it is highly resonant (pine) so the speakers display their woody side. By comparison to a bright Vintage 30 tone the TT's are warm. The Hep Cat is an edgy pedal that gives an edgier sound to mids and treble. With the Strat I have a Zendrive pedal, a cmatmods Butah and a ZVex Super Hard on for juice. Again, I get a nice woody tone that is round and full. I am a slow blues guy that likes the neck pup to be almost jazzy and the bridge to cry painfully and/or scream with a sting. The 2/4 positions I want to have a funky jangle and Knoppfleresque hollowness or Buddy W cluckiness. The TT's do all this very well at loud volumes. No need for a 3x or 4x10. Hope this helps.
