New owner of Maz 38 1-12 combo. I did a side by side comparison of 38 and 18. I was concerned I would have to crank up the 38 to get the same tones and overdrive I was getting with the 18. When I tried them both side by side I felt like I was getting the same tone and crank response from the 38 at the same settings on the 18 with a bigger fatter bottom on the 38. More Fender like. I don't know if the extra power tubes, different rectifier or what was behind it. They both were equipped with Celestion G12H-30's. I went with the 38 because for $170.00 I would have the headroom for a bigger place if needed and the fan equipped on the 38. Just felt in the long run I just didn't want to get caught short and wish I had spent the extra money. Would invite other opinions to my comparison.

I've only briefly played a Maz 18 and did not set it side by side with my 38. The 18 sounded very similar tonally. I went with the 38 for the more clean headroom too but any more I think I could have gotten by with the 18 just fine. A store here has a Maz 18NR with a Celestion blue for $1,250. It only weighed about 45 pounds! If it had reverb I would probably have to have it.
