Well, I think I'm there tone-wise! Last week, I swapped a Boss CE-2 plus $20 for a 30w AlNiCo Weber Blue Dog - what a deal! I mounted the Weber in a Thiele ported 1x12 and it sounds just great. It sounds really rich across the whole spectrum and gave this great "milk-shake" tone overdrive when you whack the front-end of the Ghia- really thick but still detailed. Sounds great with most guitars but loves my CS Esquire (Broadcaster pup) and P90 equipped Reverend. Of course, I also upgraded to a green jewel, so that could account for the new tone explosion!

Zane - beautiful guitar! Close to my dream guitar in terms of features, ergonomics and cosmetics. One day... Yep you can really dial in some different tones with the 2 volume knobs in the middle pup position I LOVE it! ;^) I use to have some Webber Blue Bell & Silver Bell 50w alnicos...I liked 'em purty good I think I would've preferred 30w's though...

Zane - that's really sweet that it's got independent volume controls for each pickup... I love my 335 for that same reason - 70% of the time I leave the pickup selector in the middle position and just adjust the pickup volume controls to get more of one or the other.

Yeah I leave it in the middle most of the time too....BUT... the "L-90" sure sounds "woody" all by it's lonesome...Mr. Lentz sure got it right with these pups fo-sho!

Zane - yes, I think 30w Weber's are perfect for the Ghia

If you're going to use a 2x12, the 15w Alnico Webers are really nice too... basically that'd be the wattage equivalent of running the Ghia into a single 30w speaker. I wouldn't use a 15w speaker in a 1x12 though, even though the Weber's are rated conservatively, I'd be willing to be that a Ghia could eventually blow one out. The 15w Alnico Weber Blue (light dope) pairs REALLY well in a 2x12 with a G12H30 as well... especially the ones with the 55hz cones (such as the Celestion Heritage H30 or the Scumback SA-12-55)... Fantastic to run the Ghia through that speaker pairing in an open back cab... those speakers together are a versatile matchup, and bring out a very voxZmarshallicious hybrid tone (Blue brings out the Vox, the H30 brings out the Marshall). BTW martyncrew, I'm sure it has more to do with the green jewel lamp than anything else.

Hey Martyn, I got the Red Fand in my Ghia now. It sounds really good to me. Yes the bottom is a little loose but I like that. It sounds better than my Weber Ceramic Blue Dog. It sounds much better to me than the Vintage 30 also. Thanks for the good deal on the speaker. It will stay in the Ghia awhile. May still try the alnico blue dog at some point but so far so good with the Emeninence Red Fang.

straightblues - I'm happy that you like the RF! It's a good speaker just didn't give me what I was hearing in my head. I sent some karma your way as a thank-you for a real easy deal.
