Here are some pictures of my 1994 (maybe 95?) Dr.Z Maz38 Invasion that I have owned since 1997. According to Dr.Z, this is the amplifier that Guitar Player had to test and write about (and took a while to return, as the story is told. A few minutes with it, and it's easy to see why!). I was asked by Don on this forum to take some pics of it after I mentioned it on The Gear Page.
As many of you know, this amp is a bit different than the Maz Sr of today, and this one is a bit different than most Maz38 Invasions, given that it came stock with two front-mounted Greenbacks. Other distinguishing features is that it has a push-pull pot on the volume for a "Top Boost", a Presence control instead of the "Cut" control now used, a tube-driven effects loop with send and return level controls (more on that later), and a fan an courtesy outlet.
The tube driven effects loop is especially cool, even though I never use it for effects. Occasionally, I'll put a jumper cable between the output and input, crank the send and turn down the receive, and I have an extra gain stage to work with. It's like a "hot rod" Z!
This amp is my baby, and although I have 4 other Z amps that I might grab first for certain instances, this will always be my favorite. I gig with it about once a month with my band, though my RX-ES gets the call for bigger venues.
The tone is classic Z - a bit of Vox meets Marshall, but with a flavor unique on its own. The reverb is wonderful, though I don't use it too much when I gig.
If you see these pics on Ebay, either report it stolen, report it as a bad auction, or check the obituaries for my name, because this is never leaving my possession.
I hope you enjoy the pictures.
