I use a telecaster with my carmen ghia and Z best cabinet. I am noticing some real noise, especially on the clean. I really notice it with my lipstick pickup and my middle selector setting. I have a jb junior pickup in the bridge and it is not bad there. This is likely a cleaning issue with my guitar??? (I mean the selector switch)

Could be a screening issue. Has the pickguard got copper foil screening? You can easily fit this if it's not there. You could try some switch cleaner, never hurts to do that about once a year. Also have a look at the solder joints on the switch, could be a dry joint, if you're happy using an iron re solder all the connections, and while you're at it check the earth connections too.
Good luck!

My neck and middle positions on the Tele are noisy too, I think it is a sheilding problem (or "screening" as Darkside mentioned, I think that's the british term for the same thing). The bridge is noisy too, but slightly less so. The JB junior is a humbucker, so you won't get it in the bridge much. The switch can be noisy, but usually it only occurs during pickup switching. You can have wiring issues, especially with grounding. Does the noise get louder when you touch the strings or bridge (it shouldn't, most times it gets quieter)? If it gets louder, you should check all you wires and ground connections. Are there any flourescent lights or dimmers in your playing area? If so turn them off. If it still persists, I'd try this, it will take an hour or two, and cost about 15$ for materials, but it helps: www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/shielding/tele.php In my old house I get a lot of single coil buzz on the tele, I ended up swiching to Kinman pickups. It was so bad that I couldn't use OD's at all with the tele, the Kinmans are at least as quiet as humbuckers. Tone wise they aren't quite as nice as Lollars/Fralin/Amalfitano, but if you've got bad buzz, they're worth it.

Ha! Yes. Screening = Shielding. Well worth checking it out.

BTW I have a little 59 in the bridge...not a jb junior....must have been tired when I wrote that one. Anyway, the noise was a static problem that apparently tele's are famous for having in them during the dry winter months. Perhaps that is a dry joint?
