After messing with tubes, speakers and attenuators, I think it would be best to put a pedal in front of my Ghia for lower volume breakup. I have tried one cheap pedal and it sounded great. I am sure there are better pedals out there that match perfectly with the Ghia. What are your favorite Overdrives, Boost, Distortion, Fuzz units for use with the Ghia? What pedals should I aviod using with the Ghia?

I use a Hotcake, Hellbaby and Hellbilly. All of these are great with the ghia. I used to use a JFET type clean booster that was great, but it's a similar circuit to the Hellbaby, which uses op-amps instead of JFETs for a smoother high end.

I use an RC booster...it's really nice for boosting solos or just lots-o-grit..

I have a Keeley BD2 which I haven't run through it yet. The Keeley Java Boost didn't do much for it at low volumes but sounds good when the volume knob is above 12 oclock. The cheap pedal that sounded really good was a Danelectro Daddy O. I have hated this pedal with almost every other amp. It really shines through the Ghia though. The Bad Monkey sounds ok, not great like it does through some of my other amps. I have a Zendrive on order that will be here next week. I can't wait to try it through the Ghia.

I've had a Daddy-O for many years and don't use it live anymore, but at home with the Mini it's just killer !!

I use a Pharaoh Amps Class A Boost with a Contour control - this doubles as a clean boost and "low grit" OD. It's really nice for hitting the front-end of the Ghia and getting some creamy OD especially thru the Weber Blue Dog

I really like the Catalinbread SCOD with the Ghia... Works well if you want to use it for low volume distorted jammin', but it really shines at gig volumes for an over-the-top lead tone.
Honestly though, rather than choke my Ghia's volume control way back and use a distortion pedal, I very much prefer to use my Lovepedal 1/2 watt Vintage amp for overdrive, which would cost the same as the average boutique distortion/od pedal...
