Last night, my bassist said my guitar sounded too thin. First I wanna mention that i was playing a strat with old strings that need to be replaced, so that could be the problem, but does anyone have a suggestion on settings between master, volume and cut? I want that thick creamy clean, and ive noticed to cut down on the CUT knob to achieve that but any other suggestions?

Hey Funkyjazz i set my master at 12:00 cut at 2,bass all the way off, treble at 11,mid it varies normally at 10,volume all up,the mid control has a lot too do with the overall sound, also check all your tubes we don't know how old the amp is it may need to be freshened up a bit. check and let us know.

I dont think my amp should be old at all since I just bought it at christmas time, why would it be old? It should be brand spanken new just like everyone else's. Ill try your settings and change my strings

Didn't mean to imply your amp was old, just didn"t know how long you have had it,I got my amp in november and it took awhile to get used to it,the more you play it the nicer it seems to sound i guess it's just a break in period.

Last night, my bassist said my guitar sounded too thin. A statement from a bass player like that wouldn't carry much weight with me. Of course it sounds thin to him! ;D Seriously, the Maz's are NOT the thickest sounding Z amps, like say a Stingray (fat city) would be. But they really don't need to be. The Maz's are voiced so they cut through like crazy...I had a Jr that NEVER had a problem being heard, even in a room full of big more powerful amps. I don't know how long you've played, but I'll also add that I always trust my own ears to dial in my sound. If anyone wants to solicit advice on volume that's one thing, on suggesting ways to tweak my tone....I don't need that.

You will need to understand every piece of your gear and how it interacts together. Check your cables, bypass all your pedals, pare it down to one good guitar cable directly into your amp with no effects in the LOOP. If this fails then perhaps you have a tube issue. This can be more difficult to diagnose you may need tech help in that case.

Thanks for the link, will check out this PM. Hey Stan et al, Here's the additional info from D. Weller that gives more detail to the Maz Sr tones. It's right on and very useful. Can set the tone controls to taste, but here's where I've found the Master/Volume tweaks start to make the difference - : Master Up, Volume Down = Power Tube Drive for smoother/warmer tones. Master Down, Volume Up = Pre Tube Drive for brighter/edgier and scooped tones. Where I've found the 'coloring' starts: Master 2-3:00 Volume 11:00 will get you into a warm "Marshally" kind of tone - nice mid hump, smooth and compressed. Emphasis is on the power section. Master 10-12:00 Volume 1-2:00 will get you into scooped "Vox/Fender" kind of tone - less mids, bit more bite/edge and less compressed. Emphasis is on the pre section. Might try rolling the Cut down around 9-10:00. Lower Cut settings are smoother/darker. Higher Cut settings are brighter/edgier/more aggressive. High Cut settings are killer for high-gain playing.

Are you playing through a open back cab? They sound thin when listening off axis or from the side.Maybe that's why he made the comment.

Update: It only sounds thin through my strat, which i find surprising, but its a 1x12 combo. Through my PRS, the Maz sounds immaculate, couldn't ask for a better sound, i wonder why my strat sounds so thin through the Z, ill keep working with it....
