Visited my parents today and did a little snooping through some old electronic equipment. In an old 4-track reel-to-reel recorder, I found some usable tubes for my Maz 38:
2 EL84s (made in Germany, looks like "International C Servicemaster" is the company name) 2 Telefunken ECC83s 2 Siemens ECC83s 1 Philips ECC82. Is the ECC82 able to be used in place of an ECC83? 2 EAM86s. These are really difficult to get to, so I left them there. Are they worth the trouble to dig out? Would they be usable in a Maz? They look very similar to the 12AX7.
I'm going to take them to my tech to have them tested (I have no way of doing it myself).
Also, my parents have a phonograph/radio that's been passed down through the family and dates back to the early 40s. According to the tube chart, these are inside: 7F8, 7X7, 7AF7, 5Y3GT/G, 7H7, and 6V6GT/G. I'm familiar with the 6V6 tubes, but what about the others? Are they still used in modern amps or as a subsitute for something else?
Sorry for the long post, Ryan

Ryan, the 5y3gt is the rectifier used in the Carmen Ghia, and many vintage amps.

Thanks, Brad. I thought that one sounded familiar, too. I'm really curious about that EAM86 and if it's usable in my Maz in some way, though. Also, the rest of those odd tubes in the old radio have got me curious, too, but I haven't been able to turn up any info yet...

Well. If you're looking to unload any of them, I'd be interested in the ECC83s.

The EAM 86 is the same as a 6GX8 indicator tube I think, usually euro made, not usable in the maz. Here's a link: www.akh.se/tubes/htm/eam86.htmThe ECC 82 is a much lower gain preamp tube than the ECC83/12Ax7, its the euro version of the 12AU7. Its a lower gain preamp tube, you COULD use it in a Maz, give it a try if you want, but its not one of the "original" tube complement.

Brad - Thanks for the offer. I'm most likely going to keep them, though, but you'll be the first to know if I change my mind... zdogma - Thanks a lot for the info, I really appreciate it. I might pop the 82 in my Maz just to hear how it sounds, but - going by your description - I have a hunch that I probably won't like it.
